Star Wars films ranked

At this point I'm not sure I get much enjoyment from any of them. The Phantom Menace comes the closest in the prequel trilogy to being an actually coherent film, but it's incredibly detached and oddly apathetic.

The original trilogy is all around fantastic, and I wouldn't list one above any of the others, but I've seen them so many damn times that they like the entertainment value they once had. They also don't seem as relevant to me as they once did. In fact, in some ways I feel like the original '77 film is disserviced to a great extent by existing within the fabric of the saga. It's a much stronger film on it's own right.

Empire like most people was my favourite for a long time, but after watching all six back to back on DVD, I'd say now Episode 4 is my favourite. Its just looks so beautiful in the remastered DVD. Yes the ending to Empire is awesome, but Episode 4 just is Star Wars in every way (well duh, but you know what I mean)

So...
1. IV A New Home
2. V Empire Strikes Back
3. VI Return of the Jedi
4. III Revenge of the Sith
5. II Attack of the Clones
6. I Phantom Menace

I think it's a shame Lucas didn't take this as an incentive to let other do the directing from here on.

Well, he did get Richard Marquand to direct Jedi. I suppose he wasn't as happy with that result.

1. The Empire Strikes Back - I love the epic feel of this movie. The developing relationship between Han and Leia is well done. The duel between Luke and Vader is great. I love how Luke charges in swinging his lightsaber with both hands, while Vader casually uses his with one hand. This one also has the best dialogue in the series.

2. Star Wars - Truly a classic all the way around. Not much else I can say about this one.

3. Revenge of the Sith - Lucas bridges the two trilogies very well here, I think. The fall of Anakin was well done, and I especially love the final showdown between Obi-Wan and Anakin. Great acting from Ewan McGregor.

4. Return of the Jedi - I think this film is sometimes unfairly maligned. The Ewoks don't bother me (I like the contrast of the cute little primitives defeating the big evil technological Empire). In my opinion, the battle above the Sarlaac is one of the best action sequences in the series (helped by the great Williams score, no doubt). The inner turmoil Luke endures during his final battle with Vader is great, and Ian McDiarmid gives my favorite performance as the Emperor here. I'll confess, when Anakin replies to Luke's promise to save him with "You already have, Luke. You already have," I get a little choked up.

5. Attack of the Clones - Another one I find to be underrated. I really enjoyed the political aspect of this storyline. Plus, Christopher Lee.

6. The Phantom Menace - The weakest story of the series, but I still find it worthwhile for the Podrace and the duel with Darth Maul.

I feel a little better after reading these replies. AOTC seems to be at the bottom of about as many lists as TPM.

One person I cannot stand in TPM is Captain Panaka. He delivers his lines with the emotions of an acorn and every freakin' line is negative. We cannot do this, we cannot do that, blah, blah, blah.

One a positive note, I'm surprised people get on ROTJ for the Ewoks, but on the bright side that movie has Jabba's palace and the incredible battle over the Sarlacc!

I like the prequel trilogies, just not as much as the OT, but Hayden Christiansen IMO sucks rear end.

People criticize Hayden Christensen in the prequels, when he actually does a good job, he speaks the way Darth Vader speaks

I just think he comes off as a whiny emo kid who I try to block out of memory that this is the person inside the mask of the greatest villian of all time Darth Vader. He just doesn't match James Earl Jones imposing voice to me as being done by a bratty kid.

1. Star Wars
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

1. ROTS - Other than Anakin turning on a dime, Novelization was better, this was the best Star Wars movie. The friendship and brotherhood between Obi-Wan and Anakin was very realistic, especially with Obi-Wan at the end. Order 66 should have been a little longer, but it was emotional.
2. AOTC - Yes the romance scenes were campy, but it was a romance between two young people, not fictional shakespeareans. I like the set up of the Clone Wars, and love seeing the Jedi in action.
3. ESB - It is a good movie, but it was the only high point in the original trilogy
4. TPM - The Jedi and the politics are good set ups. Yes Jar-Jar is annoying, but he brings some comedy to a rather serious movie. Young Anakin is not annoying, have you any of you been around a 9 or 10 year old?
5. ANH - The movie is fine as a stand alone, but I dont see the reason why people worship this movie, the story is mish mash from older stories.
6. ROTJ - The movie was kind of boring, especially with the surface battle portion. What the Empire has no sensors of any kind? By that logic, the Rebel Alliance has no sensors of any kind? The love part between Solo and Leia kind of did a back track from ESB.

1. Star Wars
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Return Of The Jedi up until Boba Fette falls into the Sarlack pit.

The rest are pretty much unwatchable.
