Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

^ That was wild. Thanks for sharing it. I don't think it was specific to Episode VII, more like they were taking a familiar environment, characters and vehicles to show off the new tech.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Nice. Thanks for that. Interesting stuff.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

We're going to be so spoiled by the time this film comes out.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It's a pretty good time to be a Star Wars fan, for sure.

Are we, though? Given how tight of a ship Abrams ran for Into Darkness, I imagine we'll be getting less information about Episode VII than we did for Episode III.

Back before RotS, I was smack in the middle of the spoilers for the film - heck, I even wrote a mock script for the film nearly 18 months in advance of its release based on what was known about the plot and characters at the time (I'd say it was 75% accurate). We had not only production stills, but actual captures of the film itself (that weren't part of a publicity release).

Somehow I don't think we'll be getting quite that level of inside information this time around.

But one can hope!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Really? I sorta hope they keep it locked down. While Into Darkness's "surprise" was stupid and predictable, other surprises that have happened, like in the Lego Movie, or Iron Man 3, were great fun.

I miss being surprised. And fuck all if I have to leave the internet for two years just to avoid spoilers. Some, sure, but, damn, we have become such a spoiled happy culture. And I don't know if that's a good thing.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

^ Yeah, I can understand what you're saying. Particularly nowadays, with a film as big as Star Wars, once a spoiler is out, it's almost impossible to avoid it. Still ... from my perspective at least, the surprise is going to happen no matter what - in the film, or as a spoiler. It's not often that I will seek out spoilers anymore, but for these films at least, I would enjoy being spoiled ... and then seeing how it all plays out on screen. It wouldn't ruin the experience of the film for me, but rather enhance it.

3 years of "No, it's not going to be Darth Vader", followed by a film that has Darth Vader.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Technically if Anakin's Force spirit appears in Episode VII it'll still be a movie with Darth Vader in it. From a certain point of view. ;)

Anyways, I get the feeling that once Disney and Lucasfilm are finished with the proposed Boba Fett and Han Solo standalone films they'll do something with Vader to help fill in more of his pre-OT backstory. There are twenty years of history between his being placed in the black armor and the opening moments of A New Hope, and that's a galaxy full of storytelling opportunities.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

If they make a Vader film, hopefully James Earl Jones will still be around to voice the character. I have no idea who you could get to replace him.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Matt Sloan did a pretty good job in The Force Unleashed.

That video is crazy. It's pretty impressive when you consider that just a few years a go it would take them months or days to get those kinds of effects onto the screen.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There's very little about the Force Unleashed games and associated characters and merchandise that I don't like. Two of the greatest Star Wars games ever made as well as two of the best video games of the past decade. It's a shame that they might be decanonized.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I own almost every version Halo plus several Call of Duty games. I know great games. ;) What can I say, I'm a SW geek and like the Unleashed games. I apologize for nothing, yo! I like the Battlefront games even more, though.

Some SW games are boring or complete fertilizer, though.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I like the Unleashed games, too, but "best games of the past decade" is pushing it.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

"Two of the best" in this case means hovering towards the bottom of the Top 20 or even 25, mind you. Great games I had a lot of fun with, but I'm not insane enough to rank them with or above, say, anything from the Halo franchise.

If only LucasArts had come up with something THAT amazing, but alas they didn't.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Fair enough. I don't even think I've played 20 video games in the last decade.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

You disappoint us, son. How could you.

:p

The less I think about how many games I've tried at least once since the early part of the last decade the better. There's a lot of crap out there. A lot. That includes some Wars and Trek games, unfortunately.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I guess a decade is a long time. I'm sure I've played more than 20, but I couldn't really say for sure. Although I've played all the Assassins Creed games, so that's 6 right there. I'm not really a "gamer," though. I have a couple game series that I follow (AC, Arkham City, Uncharted, etc), but I very rarely experiment with new stuff unless I hear amazing things.
