Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Why on earth would they do such a thing?

Rip off the characteristics of the EU characters, but just change all the names?

What is that supposed to accomplish, other than pissing off EU fans that much more?

Whatever happened to creativity? Doing something new? Or with Abrams on board is that kind of thing out of the question?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I just hope they'll still call Luke's son Ben. That's pretty much the perfect name for him. If they're still keeping the Solo twins, I'm kinda glad they seem to have eliminated the third child. Anakin Solo always seemed kind of superfluous to me.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I never gave two craps for Anakin Solo, really. After Jaina and Jacen I stopped caring about their offspring (and most of the later EU stories involving them).

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Is it true that they killed off Anakin Solo because they thought people would get him confused with Anakin Skywalker?

Because that is some derpy shit right there.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

George Lucas thought the storyline they had planned for him was too similar to Anakin Skywalker's, and he thought it would confuse people, so he asked that they change their plans. So basically they took their plans for Anakin and put them on Jacen and then killed Anakin.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

As a fan I always confused Jaina and Jacen with Zan and Jaina.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Seriously, I always thought that was where Zahn got the names from.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I met him once at a con about 20 years ago. He wore all black and a lightsabre the entire time.

Remember that EU fans are a drop in the ocean compared to the tens of millions who will go to see the new films. Disney doesn't care and they shouldn't care what a few fans of books written twenty years ago think. For the vast majority of us, the books are an embarrassment at best - a blight at worst.

The EU was always just a stopgap(and a very spotty one)until the resurgence we are seeing now

Talk about "The dark times"!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

So why rip off ideas and character concepts from the EU, then, if the whole enterprise was such an embarrassment?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It's still too early to draw conclusions that something's definitely happening or not with any of the characters. Billy Dee Williams was just asked if Lando is returning for Episode VII and even Billy Dee doesn't have a clue what's going on yet, and the script's already finished.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Does this mean we're not getting Nien Nunb? Because that would be bad.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There's always Ten Nunb.

No joking, there was a Ten Nunb who was another pilot in the Rebel fleet at Sullust and Endor. B-Wing Fighter, I think.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Wedge Antilles or nothing. If E7 doesn't bring back Dennis Lawson, then I promise I will boycott ... all future discussions of Wedge Antilles ...

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I do think taking pretty much everything but renaming them is silly; hopefully that extra goofy step is just rumor.

For the vast majority of us, the books are an embarrassment at best - a blight at worst.

That's excessive.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I don't think most of the EU books were either an embarrassment or a blight. I think a lot of them were plain boring or junk, but a blight? That's hyperbole. I didn't like that Chewie died during the Yuuzhan Vong storyline so guess what I did? Ignored it. Lucasfilm said it was canon for a long time but who cared....I didn't like it so I focused on the books and graphic novels that I actually did enjoy and relegated the rest to the sidelines where I could just easily and happily ignore them.

These books aren't a disease or humiliation to Star Wars fans. They're books, and whether Lucas and his people allowed them to be part of the canon at the time or not I could have cared less.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Hyperbole in SW fandom is nothing new.

I'm looking at you, prequels.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

On a tangent, if the Emperor makes any appearances at any point during the course of the brand new TV series I wouldn't mind seeing them use Tim Curry's voice the way they did for Palpatine/Sidious in the final episodes of the network run of The Clone Wars. My guess is that they get a different voice actor for the new show but Curry did a very good job last year and I sure wouldn't mind seeing him come back to reprise the role.

Do you mean movies or tv-series? If movies then I would think they would ask Ian McDiarmid to reprise his role..
