Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Yeah, it's supposedly not true. MakingStarWars.net got their hands on a copy of the puzzle and the package doesn't say anything about Finn's parentage.

All I'd heard about it was the story I linked to, I didn't realize it had already been disproved.

...

If I recall correctly, speaking about another film franchise, the M-41A pulse rifle from Aliens is formed from a cut down SPAS-12 shotgun.

Again, these are vague recollections. I'm sure I could Google them, but I like to see if my memory still at least vaguely works. :D

AFAIK, the shotgun was used for the integrated grenade launcher, the base of the rifle was actually a thompson mp ("Tommy gun") .

I do believe you are correct. :)

Simon Pegg praises TFA and slams the PT, again.

Infers that George Lucas "misunderstands" his own creation (the OT), and how he (Pegg) has no respect for people who like the PT.

You know, this screams of fanboy entitlement. As if the PT and LUcas ruined his enjoyment of Star Wars as a whole, personally.

I've said this before. It appears that people's hatred of the PT, has now eclipsed their love for the OT. Ask yourself, who talks about the PT more? PT lovers or PT haters?

If he'd been a "consultant" on the prequels, he would have defended the hell out of them. Probably would have told fans to eff off when they badmouthed them, too.

I love and adore Simon Pegg and he seems like a celebrity who'd be lots of fun to know and hang out with in real life, but sometimes the PT hate from guys like him goes overboard. Not respecting anybody who thinks the Prequels were good is a bit much, though it could just be nerd hyperbole in a heated moment and we all know how easy it is to get whipped up over geek stuff in a debate or argument. I understand he had a negative experience seeing Episode I when it was first released (lots of people did) but keeping some perspective is always a good thing.

It hurts to have something you love transform into something you don't. Like a partner who changes so much that they are no longer the person you started dating or agreed to marry. Not only do you have the loss to mourn, but there is this pretender constantly reminding you of what you once had and can never have again. Between the PT and the SE, a lot of the most passionate fans of the series find themselves marginalized, pushed away and not recognizing the thing they fell in love with. That creates a unique brand of anger in them. It sounds over-dramatic and childish but it is perfectly in keeping with human nature.

Personally, I've moved on to a combination of depression, bargaining and a touch of denial.

That's similar to how I deal with the Presidential debates. Delusion, heavy drinking and being glad that - if nothing else - I'm not somebody who supports one of those candidates.

Anyone who compares a series of movies to a personal relationship has deeper issues than just PT hatred...

Eh, the PT "hate" has always bordered on the hyperbolic. Yes, the films were flawed. But the amount of vitriol they've elicited is clearly disproportionate to their faults (except for AOTC - fuck that film ).

Seriously, though ... the PT, imperfect though it was, brought in a lot of new fans, kept Star Wars relevant, helped spawn The Clone Wars and Rebels series (and, IMO the ST), and in the process entertained a lot of us. Rejecting all of that outright is ... well ... hyperbolic.

Fear not, though. Solo hasn’t grown that much. He seems to still have money issues, for starters. “We spend a lot more time [in the movie] on his failure to master basic skills, like accounting,” Ford says, rubbing his thumb and forefinger together. “And accounting for his own behavior. There’s a lot of the rogue still left in Solo. Some things don’t change.”

Indeed. I cycle through depression, bargaining and denial too. I often feel that if I ignore the PT then maybe it will all go a way.

I get that, but on the other hand...the whole point of storytelling in general and franchise filmmaking in particular is to make people care about characters who don't exist, and to make them care enough that they'll keep coming back for more. It writers/directors/studios intentionally cultivate a faux-relationship between the characters and the audience. It's kind of hypocritical to expect people to care madly about Han Solo or Kirk or whatever when those feelings are positive but somehow let it all go when things turn sour. Nobody would demand that of a real two-way relationship, yet the success of all story relies on making the audience feel those exact kinds of emotions.

The comparison of being fed a few shitty movies and a painful dissolution of a years-long relationship... Is disturbing as shit.

I don't think any sane Star Wars fan who ever went through a devastating breakup gave two flying fucks about Star Wars at the time.

Finn has the lightsaber in that behind that behind the scenes picture, so I'm willing to guess that he'll spend some in the movie practicing with it before he'll need to use it.
