Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Kids from my generation understand that commercial so well. We've all been in his shoes and wished we could jump into an X-Wing's cockpit, leaving our schoolwork and jobs behind and go off on exciting adventures in the far reaches of space.

Star Wars is one of the touchstones for Gen X and always will be.

That commercial bring me to tears. I think one of the underlying messages of it is that there is something different about Star Wars in that - even when you are a kid when you first experience it and it was responsible for expanding your imagination - it's not something that is outgrown.. the themes and images, as well as the excitement - all age so well, like fine wine.

An X-Wing Fighter. The Millennium Falcon. The Enterprise.

Any one of those ships provided hours of fantasy and wishing. All three helped define a childhood.

I always had a thing for the A-wings. They've got this sleek, compact design that just screams "fast," and that always appealed to me.

Yeah, the most prominent shot of an A-wing is one kamikazi-ing into the SSD bridge though, so they never got much chance to shine.

I prefer the B-Wings myself, so much so that yesterday I was in the local Toy Shop and they had both the Black Series B-Wing and Poe's new X-Wing and I went with the B-Wing as the wife made me choose!

B-Wing is one of my favorite ships too- it is a shame we never saw much of it doing it's thing on screen. Just a wild asymmetrical design which appealed to me.

I'm a card carrying member of team B-Wing, too!:techman: Wish they could have been able to make the rotating cockpit work.

Yeah, B-wing was a very cool and underutilized ship in RotJ.
At least you got to fly one (I believe) in X-Wing Alliance and perhaps even in X-Wing vs TIE Fighter.

As I recall, the B-wing was the most heavily armed of all Rebel starfighters... and it could even take on a capital ship, especially if in a flight of 3 or 4 B-wings.

X-wing Space Superiority Fighter
Y-wing Attack craft/bomber
A-wing Interceptor
B-wing Heavy Assault Fighter

An earlier version of the A-Wing Fighter has made appearances in Rebels with Darth Vader attacking and destroying several in a recent episode. It's nice to see the ship in existence and operation about a decade prior to ROTJ, because for a while it seemed like the A-Wing was a recent fighter design that didn't even enter service until the Original Trilogy.

I think the A-wing was also seen in the "Star Wars Driods" animated series from the 80's. I think it might have even been one of the main (rotating) hero's ships. Non-canonical as it is, I believe that took place some years before the OT.

In the old EU timeline I believe Droids took place about 15 years after the end of the Old Republic and the Clone Wars, at roughly the exact same time as Rebels does in the new continuity. And you're right, the A-Wing was used in the '80s animated series. Kenner even released a very scarce and expensive version of the fighter in Droids colors and packaging that goes for a lot of money on eBay and the secondary market.

I don't believe the Kenner A-Wing was ever released with RotJ branding - it was always a Droids release until the POTF2 drop in the 90s.

I'm a Y-Wing guy, myself. I have a soft spot for A-Wings too, but if you see the cockpit design it is just too cramped for my liking. The Y-Wings from CW especially have a very sleek, almost Star Trek, feel to them that I just think is great.

Honest Trailer for TFA trailer. It's really more Prequel hate, than an actual parody.

Also, Disney is phasing out the Slave Leia bikini, merchandise and any sexy poses on the comics over at Marvel.

It is pretty neat to see a forerunner type of Y-wing fighter in The Clone Wars. :)

I do like the Y-wing as well. Generally the more modern one, but the Y-wing (of either Clone Wars or the OT) to me is like the F-4 Phantom. :)

X-Wing = F-14 Tomcat or F-15 Strike Eagle
A-wing = F-16 Falcon or F-18 Hornet
Y-Wing = F-4 Phantom
B-Wing = A-10 Warthog

I've always felt the Honest Trailers were less than honest.

As for Disney phasing out the Slave Leia outfit... hmmm... I'm gonna keep my mouth shut because what I have to say will likely offend more sensitive viewers.
