Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Ugh, Abrams using thrawn would suck. I don't want them to adapt any of the EU elements. Thrawn is the best villain in the SW Universe (I like him even better than Vader, especially since what Lucas did to make Anakin such a whiny ass has kind of rubbed off on Vader's original awesomeness for me). If Abrams is going to ruin Star Wars, he should ruin it his own way. Don't drag much better people's characters through the mud. I don't want Thrawn, or for that matter I don't want Luke with Mara Jade (who is my second favorite SW character) or Han and Leia together. If old Luke is in the movie, don't have him married or find someone else to hook him up with. Have Han and Leia married to random other people. The EU is probably going to be killed by this anyway, they might as well not try to ruin the work of Timothy Zhan and all the other great Star wars writers. Abrams doesn't deserve to ruin great character like Mara, or Leia/Han's family. He should just make his own characters to screw up. Him using EU characters or concepts would be like if JJ Trek had a scene where Nero tested out his planet destroying red goo on Bajor before destroying Vulcan, just as an FU to DS9 fans.

If Abrams is taking Star Wars down, he should at least not be a big enough ass to specifically try to ruin some of the great non Lucas creations/stories.

What is it with people like you and your hatred of Abrams? And who do you think could do better jobs with both Star Wars and Star Trek? Shaking up Star Trek by getting rid of Vulcan was an awesome thing-was he supposed to just let things be to suit you and everybody else trapped in the past?

As it is, I'll be keeping aways from the 'Net myself with regards to the coming trilogy

Great job finding a post of mine from January, 2014. I've long since come around, and I'm super hyped for Episode VII. I've also gone back on most of my JJ hate (I even like Star Trek Into Darkness).I'm still not a huge fan of JJ's Star Trek stuff (I liked STID, but its low on my list of enjoyable sT movies), and I still dislike ST09 for reasons that aren't JJ specific, but basically the post you quoted is extremely out of date. Its almost a year old, and 209 pages of thread ago. So, congrats on your act of forum archeology, but maybe posting something from so long ago might be a bit ridiculous at this point? I don't expect someone to read 209 pages of the topic, but brining up such an old post would be kind of pointless now even if it still reflected my attitude, and it doesn't, at all.

Yea, Kirk55555 used to be one of the most anti-JJ folks around, the mere mention of his name, would send Kirk's keyboard into epileptic seizures, but, JJ sent some guys around to do a rewrite and a retcon on him. JJ has a few others in his sights, too (Sorry Kirk55555, just having fun with you, you know I've always loved you, even at your most entrenched)

Kirk55555 has actually come a very long way with accepting things as they are, and judging things on themselves, rather than his on his preconceptions. I think you'll find alot of posters who will vouch for his open-mindedness on many projects these days

The only problem is I can't go outside anymore, because all the lensflares that come off my body cause traffic accidents ;)

Honestly, though, I totally admit to being an idiot back in the oh so ancient days of...early this year  But, yeah, I eventually realized I was being an idiot, and had a turn around when it comes to JJ. His Trek stuff will never be my favorite, but I don't have much vitriol anymore, and honestly I think he's going to hit one out of the park with Episode VII.

Would get you lots of positive attention in Night Clubs, though :D

But how to you feel about Sin in "Arrow"?;).

Nah, you were totally right about STID sucking. Don't feel bad about that one. ;)

(Although I put the blame for that more on the writers than Abrams, who was never enough of a Trek fan to know better).

If somebody dropped ecstacy while watching lens flare they'd be a lost cause. We'd never get them back - not even with immediate intervention.

:rommie: She hasn't been around in a long time, and I don't see her showing back up.

It had big problems, but I like it well enough. As bad as the TWOK rip off stuff at the end is, I liked that it got right to the story in the beginning, and even if the role was done weirdly Benedict Cumberbatch is always great. Plus, I really like Pegg and Urban (even if they're underused, especially Urban who seems to get about 10 lines a movie). It had a better villain than ST09, and it didn't need all the build up (although they probably could have cut Kirk's demotion entirely and not lost anything).

For some reason, that makes me think of the planetarium episode of South Park

There'd been a rumor that we'd have one around the beginning of the new year so I still expect Disney and Lucasfilm to have one ready to release before long. We already know the full title of the movie and we've seen the teaser trailer, so the very first movie poster is next on the list.

Most of the Star Wars teaser posters have tended to be somewhat minimalist, with the more grand Struzan (or other artists) ones coming later.

The Episode I teaser poster from November of 1998 is one of my all-time favorite posters from any era or genre of film. Say what one wants about the film itself, but that first image of nine-year-old slave boy Anakin Skywalker casting the ominous shadow of Darth Vader remains one of the most memorable images of the entire Prequel era and even since.

Yes! That was fantastic.

It's one of the most effective and minimalist movie posters I've seen in my entire life. It said more with one simple image than entire movies (and many might say entire Prequel films) say during the course of a two-hour running time. I can't even remember what the Episode II and III teaser posters looked like without Googling them, but the Episode I poster was a cultural event at the time along with the very first trailer.

When my friends and I went to see TPM, the one friend who worked there (His parents owned the place.) took the poster off the wall and said one of us could have it. We did a MKIII tourney for it; I won.

I lost the frame years ago, but I think I still have the poster rolled up somewhere. It was a great design.

And yeah, I don't remember the other two either.

Beautiful. One of the greats.

The first time I ever saw it on display inside a theater was when I went to see Insurrection, which was released at almost the same moment as the teaser poster.

I hope The Force Awakens has a teaser poster that's even half this great and memorable.
