Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Hopefully Luke is a better Jedi Master in the movie than he was in the EU, where it often seemed as if every other apprentice who ever studied under him turned to the dark side and wreaked havoc on the galaxy.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm sorry but anyone who doesn't want to see Luke freaking Skywalker in a SW sequel trilogy is an ass.

I think Luke is the only one I would want to see. Leia, sure.
Han? No. No, I don't want to see a 70 year old Han Solo. If any character was meant to die young in a blaze of glory, it was Han.

If anything, I hope Ford doesn't try and recreate the Han we think we want to see, that Han of decades ago, that Han of our nostalgia. Did we not learn anything from Crystal Skull?

The whole project, bringing back the original, just feels like... it feels like getting a band back together for a nostalgia tour. They don't sound great, they don't move around the stage so well, and they are playing songs they wrote when they were in their 20s.

I wish the next trilogy would've moved on. Been further down the road or something.

Or not made at all.

Because I don't want to endure the internet again like it was after the prequels came out.

Man, is that ever the truth. If we went solely by the EU storylines then Luke would be one of the biggest walking disasters (albeit unintentional) to ever don the robes and title of Jedi Master. The authors had a habit of sabotaging his long-term reputation, probably to create a deliberate parallel between Luke and his students and Obi-Wan's failures and tragic experiences with Anakin.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'd love to see Hamil, Fisher and Ford play the characters again, with no kids or already established secondary characters.

That's me too.

There's enough fanwankery in the EU.

Leave that shit there where it can ignored en masse.

I want my Luke, Leia and Han back!!!

The story was lacking, but Indy was great in KOTC.

Well lightsaber duels are a hallmark of Star Wars and with no more Sith to fight they have to make baddies from within the ranks of the good guys. JJ Abrams and Kasdan will have to pretty creative not to do it that way.

Those power converters at Tosche Station just got a whole lot more sinister.

Well you could have a lost Sith planet like Kesh. The backstory could be fleshed out further in some of those other SW movies some of which sound like they'll be based in the Old Republic or even prior to it. In the EU a ship of Sith crashed there and the planet did not allow for the development of technology to repair the ship and leave the planet so they had to wait for others to locate it. Which was difficult because of some hyperspace interference or something making ships not come near the system.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

And not all adversaries with powerful weaponry and combat skills need to be Sith or Sith confederates/allies, they can be hardened criminals, bounty hunters, rogues or even otherwise noble and upstanding individuals who feel pressed to defend themselves against what they consider unwarranted Jedi interference. We're talking Star Wars movies here so there'll likely be at least one Sith Lord in Episode VII as a successor to Sidious/The Emperor and Darth Vader, someone who tries to revive the Dark Order.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It just isn't a movie trilogy these days without Hugo Weaving, is it? We must use the Force to throw the Ring back into the Matrix from whence it came! :p

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Mr. Anderson. How good of you to come. If you'll just place that blaster in this tray and....take a seat. This won't take long.

You've been a bad Jedi, Mr. Anderson. Haven't you?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Does confirmation that they're in talks with an actor really count as "casting news"?

Anyhoo, I just wanted to be the first one to make a BEN SKYWALKER IS SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS joke.

since it has to do with a potential "cast" member and it's in the "news" I would say... yes?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

This is good news. Very good news. Reminds me of that 1999-2005 period when we soaked in every last detail and spoiler about the prequels. I doubt we'll get the level of inside information we had the last go 'round ... but the anticipation and speculation are always a lot of fun.

:techman:

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Nice. Not too shabby. It does feel like 2003-04 all over again and wondering what Episode III would be like and who'd guest star.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Wow... wasn't expecting filming to start in May. Nice.
