Star Wars Books Thread

Just saw the story about this on Io9, and I'm pretty excited. It's going to be based on the first story arc from the first Darth Vader comic series, but from Aphra's perspective rather than Vaders. I'm curious if they're going to get anybody recognizable for the new characters like Aphra, or Triple Zero.

Ooo, this is exciting. I think if we see any recognizable names cast for Aphra, it might point towards Aphra potentially showing up somewhere on Disney+.

Neat idea but I prefer audio plays to audiobooks. Similar to what Big Finish does with Doctor Who and Audible with Alien.

Basically full Doctor Who stories with full or full-ish casts acting out stories like radio dramas. Star Wars did do that with the OT films, as they made radio dramas of them.

I never listened to it, but I read somewhere said that the Dooku one they did, did have some narration, so this might too.

Just don’t buy the book of that one. You’ll regret it. :)
I don’t know anything about this Dr Alpha fella. I assume it’s a comic book character?

The Dooku one was a legit audio drama. It did have "narration" in the sense that the two main POV characters narrated some scenes, but only as lead-ins to regular dramatic scenes with different actors.

For one thing, Dr. Aphra isn't a "fella" since she's female. And yes, she's from the comics, started off as a supporting character in the Darth Vader miniseries and then went on to get her own series.

Minor character so you really shouldn't pay attention to and probably won't amount to much...

That would require me to care enough to type it in. :)
They did a few audio stories back in the day of Dark Empire and Dark Firces. I enjoyed those.
Are you familiar with the NPR audio plays of the original trilogy written by the late, great Brian Daley? Those are well worth the time.

Brian Daley also wrote a story that was recorded as an audio play depicting the events alluded to by Han at the Ord mantell spaceport. It actually serves as a nice bridge between his adaptation of Star Wars and his adaptation of Empire.

I was thinking of the records my parents had that used sound from the movies to add to the narration. Had it on cassette tape.

The radio ones? I do own them as well as they came with the Humble Bundle collection but I haven’t listened to them.
Yes, those! If you're on lockdown or quarantine, I highly recommend taking the time, for the New Hope adaptation at the very least. At 13 episodes and six and a half hours, it expands the story in a lot of fun ways, including Luke hot-roding in his skyhopper with his friends from Anchorhead and palace intrigue on Alderaan.

Of course Disney Canon has invalidated the backstory, but it's still super fun. Also, it has Mark Hamill as Luke for Star Wars and Empire, Billy Dee Williams as Lando in Empire Strikes Back, and Anthony Daniels performing Threepio in all three.
