Star Wars Books Thread

I just finished listening to Master & Apprentice earlier today. Claudia Grey was such a huge find; I've really enjoyed every single Star Wars story she's written so far.

I have to say, I really like how they handle Star Wars audiobooks. Not only are the narrators high quality, but the productions incorporate music and sound effects that really immerse you in the story. I plan to go back and re-read all of the previous canon novels in audiobook form, as this was only my second one, after Dooku: Jedi Lost. (Although I'm not sure if that one counts as an "audiobook" since it was written as a drama meant to be performed.)
What's cool is they've always been doing that with their audiobooks. I have a cassette tape copy of Heir to the Empire that includes the music and sound effects.

That's good to know. I only just got into audiobooks within the last year or two so I'd never tried any Star Wars ones before. Might have to try and hunt down as many pre-Disney ones as I can!

I'm not sure if they still do, but the old Star Trek audiobooks back in the '90s did that too. They also had cast members from the TV, often times one who were a specific focus of the book. The only problem was they were all abridged. The new ones are unabridged, but they've only got one or two regular readers, rather than the different show cast members. I'm not sure if they music or sound effects in the new ones, I haven't gotten any of them in a very long time.
I watched Solo again this morning to go along with the novelization. I was surprised just how many little bits and pieces there are in the novel, even outside of the scenes not in the movie.

I finished up the Solo novelization last night, and I really enjoyed it. I really liked most of the added scenes, especially the scene with Han's time as an Imperial pilot, and the stuff about what exactly happened to Qi'ra after Han left. The stuff with Qi'ra wasn't necessarily pleasant, but it was nice to get that gap filled in. There were also a lot of other little bits of character development, and insights that only a book is able to give you. The added epilogue with
Enfys meeting with Saw and meeting Jyn was a nice little surprise, and for me was a nice set up for reading the Rogue One novelization and the books around it.

It would probably be Sidious behind It.

Yep. This is how we get to where Vader is in ROTJ. This time he's going to put Vader in a position where he has to personally murder Padme and see her die in front of him - preferably right in front of Palpatine as well. Either (Palpatine thinks) it'll toughen Vader up for when he'll then be ordered to kill Luke at Endor, or he'll be so sick with grief and renewed guilt that he'll be no match for the boy. Either way, when how Padme came back is revealed ("Yessss... I could have brought her back to you any time I wanted"), any hope Vader had of overthrowing him and taking his place will be gone. He didn't truly know the power of the Dark Side - he must obey his master...

You're just reminding me of the most compelling critique I ever heard of Vader's redemption in RotJ: He actually just does exactly the same thing he wanted to do in the previous movie; work with Luke, kill the Emperor, end the civil war. He does it for the "right" reason in RotJ (to save Luke's life, rather than to amass despotic power for himself), but, still, something's a little hinky when Vader's good or evil paths both pass through "kill Palpatine."

This suggestion that Vader is broken between the movies helps resolve that, rather than it just being an odd retcon that he goes from wanting to recruit Luke to kill the Emperor (as is the way of the Sith), to being completely subservient to Palpatine to the point where treachery on his part is unthinkable.

I don't know. No clown makeup or flowing robes this time, and Keira and Natalie don't look that much like each other these days.

It's probably Sabe. Padme's look alike played by Keira Knightley in Episode 1.

Last time we saw her, she was investigating Padme's death in the book 'Queen's Shadow'
That does sound like a pretty good possibility. I know I've a seen lot of theories about what became of her, so Lucasfilm could have decided to give people the answer they're looking for.
