Star Wars Books Thread

Apparently there’s going to be a High Republic novel called Out Of The Shadows featuring characters from A Test Of Courage AND Reath Silas from Into The Dark! I guess I’m going to be reading A Test Of Courage...

How much you want to bet it has more to do with cutting Cara out of the material as much as possible? I mean I doubt they'd have greenlit either product if there was a chance of them stepping on where season 3 might be headed, even if those plans weren't exactly set in stone.

I doubt it. That would be silly

ETA: Deleted. Next time, I'll click the link, first.

Would it though? If they'd planned to do more with her character and now they can't, it's going to necessitate some kind of shift in narrative. There may also be issues with licencing and the use of her image on any tie-in merchandise (like say, a visual guide) now that they're no longer in business with this person. (I gather there's already been an issue with this on the action figure side of things.)
Very little. Publishing delays have been common over the last year due to the pandemic.
True, though that's not the reason they gave. Also, it seems a little late in the game for that now that the rest of their publishing line-up seems to be more or less on track.

I'm just saying, if they're being truthful and this is due to a change in narrative plans, what's more likely: 1) that at the 11th hour they randomly decided to radically alter their plans for the (VERY well received) show and by extension, all planned tie-in media for no apparent reason. Or 2) a very public split with a main cast member who was potentially going to head-up their own spin-off has necessitated some radical alterations to their plans and by extension, all planned tie-in media?
I'm not saying this is 100% what's going on but the timing seems about right.

The Cara thing seems pretty likely to me. I was thinking maybe it tied into whatever her role in Rangers of the New Republic might have been, and since she's not going to be involved in that, it made the novel pointless.

At least as far as the novel goes, I doubt this has anything to do with the novel itself of the author since he's being compensated by getting to write another novel. Meaning it likely is related to something on the show's side of things, and the Cara Dune situation is the only controversy the show is facing.

They could.
Don’t think they will.
Moot point regardless what they do. Let's just entertain a hypothetical for a moment that Cara Dune did get recast. There would not be any footage of the new actress available, and I doubt they'd have enough time to get promotional photos of her ready. And with them not allowed to use Gina Carano's likeness anymore, that's going to make The Visual Guide at the very least rather odd if it includes absolutely no visuals of Cara Dune at all.

Though, I tend to agree that Cara Dune is not going to be recast. Indeed, I'm thinking she's probably going to be killed off camera between seasons, which could explain why the novel is being pulled. Presumably the story it was telling isn't one that can be re-written so that Cara gets killed during it instead.

I started the Rogue One novelization a couple days ago and it's been really good so far. There are actually a lot more little extra bits and pieces that weren't in the movie than I was expecting. I was expecting just one or two scenes, but I think there's already been more than that.
I can't remember if there was this much new stuff in the Solo novelization.
