News Star Wars Andor anticipation thread

No, it definitely is. Obviously Disney is just doing this to hide how disappointing Star Wars is for them.

I heard it was a big conspiracy. JJ Abrams is secretly a member of the Illuminati, is actually the power behind Disney, and CBS. He won’t stop until he is secretly in control of Warner, Amazon, Netflix, AppleTV+, all of the networks, CNN and oh... Bravo. He plans to take over all the media just to be able to put his stamp on everything as he already did with Trek and Wars. But the resistance has tried to cancel all JJ things including Discovery and Picard and oust the figurehead Alex Kurtzman, but he sits at the right hand of the JJ and is protected by ninjas. With real lightsabers. And phasers! The only for anyone touched by the JJ is weakness is the tear of a unicorn.

Or Brian Brophy. :p

This is a truth I've been woke to for years.

Neil Scanlan, the VFX supervisor for the Star Wars movies, has said that they will be using some characters who were cut, or had very brief appearances, in the movies will be used on the show.
Seems like a good idea to me, if the work is done, then they might as well use them. And it's consistent with The Mandalorian, which also had a couple background characters from the movies pop up in it.
I'm pretty sure by "characters" he just means "character designs", or more specifically "creature designs". Which is basically what Star Wars had done since literally the beginning; re-use discarded designs and ideas in new stories.
There's a very long list of ships, locations, aliens and concepts that have been mined from cut or unused pre-production work.

Seems like this could start filming relatively soon after Hollywood production starts up again.

I wonder if it might have some crossover with Rebels, since the timeframe is similar. The final events in Rebels is within a year of the Battle of Scarif and Battle of Yavin. And the formal formation of the Rebel Alliance is only about two years before those two battles. Though Cassian Andor was certainly part of a cell close to Mon Mothma before that.

And while the Ghost's crew was generally helping our Lothal in that last year, Hera was still working through Yavin base for at least a year with her ship, even to the Battle of Scarif. Where she went after that isn't fully known, but she definitely regrouped with the combined Alliance Fleet for Endor.

Apparently this show is going to take place 5 years prior to Rogue One/A New Hope.

Five years before Yavin was about when Rebels started as well. Though the only likely cross over would be between two years and the Battle of Scarif. The Andor's Rebel intelligence, so he could be anyplace. Due to that he could also encounter "Fulcrum", or even be a "Fulcrum" agent.

Though Cassian Andor was certainly part of a cell close to Mon Mothma before that.
I'm not sure what you base that on. Cassian was from an outer rim world (implied to have been allied with the Seperatists IIRC) not from any cell local to Chandrilla. The only connection with Mon Mothma is what we see in Rogue One; he's a Fulcrum agent operating out of the Massassi unit. If anything, any association he'd have with Alliance brass would have been with either Draven, Dodonna, Cracken or maybe Ahsoka herself.

Remember, what became Alliance Intelligence was started by Bail's end of the organisation (mostly beginning with Ahsoka taking over his networks a year into the Empire's reign) whereas Mon Mothma was more the public face, and even then only outing herself just a few years prior.
Indeed It seems like Bail was the one organising the cells behind the scenes so that she could rally them with her declaration of the Alliance. We don't really have a sense yet of what she did prior to Dantooine; not to say that she wasn't a HUGE part of the Aliiance behind the scenes; most likely helping Bail hide the money trail and drawing any suspicious ISB might have away from him and squarely on her.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that Mon seems to have been the velvet glove, while Bail was the (very sneaky) iron hand. So I don't see her as being close to any particular cell, much less whatever Cassian's was before Yavin.

Where she went after that isn't fully known, but she definitely regrouped with the combined Alliance Fleet for Endor.
As per the comics; she commanded a few capital ships for the Alliance prior to Hoth, one of which was a mobile flight academy for Alliance pilots (an old Federation droid control ship no less) and another was one of the first Mon Cal cruisers to roll off the assembly line. By Endor though she seems to have been back on the Ghost, probably leading a wing of fighter squadrons like Lando in the Falcon, while Rex was down on the surface with Han's commando team.

I got the impression that of the remaining Spectre crew, is was mostly just Sabine who remained on as the protector of Lothal while Hera, Rex and Zeb went back to serve in the larger rebellion.
