Star Trek XII: How would you do it?

Rumor has it that J.J. Abrams, Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindeof are alredy developing ideas for Star Trek XII, and a full-fledg Scrip is expected to be written if the movie is a hit (And we all know it will ;)). So, while we don't hear anything else, I ask you: How would YOU do Star Trek XII? :)

Enjoy! :techman:

<SNIP!> How would YOU do Star Trek XII? :)

Something with whales?

Seriously, I'd have done the same thing. I know a lot of 'Trekkers' insist on a continuation of each new production, as if this was a giant saga. But over 40 years, we've seen the rock bottom results of doing just that.

I'd have done what JJ did, made an exciting film for todays audience while keeping within Trek themes, which are what Trek is as opposed to what any particular story is about. So yea, I'd redesign everything. If there's one thing I'd have done differently is that I'd not bother with the new films canon saving and just go for it. Reboot! In other words, it would just start off like any other episode... the Enterprise comes upon a mysterious planet...

I'm not a giant fan of 'prequels'. George Lucas might have just poisoned me, but even so I could care less about the origins of, say, Batman. He's batman, I KNOW who the guy is. No explaination needed. I feel the same way about Star Trek. It is 42 years old after all. Pretty much eveyone knows Kirk, Spock, and Bones.

I doubt they will do it, but a loose retelling of WNMHGB would be nice imo. The Menagerie could also serve as a basis for Trek 13 if they decide to zap Pike with the delta radiation ala TOS.

I actually expect the second film to be far better than this one, as is usually the way with these sorts of things.

Better story, better baddie.

Not that I'm saying this one won't be great, I just think the sequel will be a better film.

It should start off slow, with the boring side of starfleet...

Filing reports and scans of gaseous anomalies, until something bad goes down, and starfleet send a group of ships to the problem sector, and the fleet is wiped out, leaving the Enterprise alone. Its then a matter of taking the brunt of the damage, falling back before regrouping and planning another fleet wave, led by the Enterprise.

Or something else that contrasts the drugery of starfleet with something big and fun.

I usually answer questions like this with a 5000 word rant detailing the many and multifarious ways the idiots in charge are doing everything completely and totally wrong.

But not this time. JJ is pretty much doing exactly what I'd do. This is very weird for me. :wtf:

...of course, that's if my first responsibility were resurrecting the Star Trek franchise. And since that is the situation, my answer stands, but if it weren't, I'm sure I'd foist my Post-Dominion-War, Garak-Centric movie series on the world whether they wanted it or not. :rommie:
The movie should be all about Captain Robau and his badassitude.

Now if we're talking TV series...

I can't say I respect the audience JJ is shooting for then. It's one thing to know nothing and want to learn, it's another to revel in that lack of knowledge. Then again people seem to value a lack of knowledge these days...

I don't know whether or not they will actually go this route but I'm willing to bet a modern adaptation of one of the more popular original episodes is at least on the table. The Doomsday Machine or The Ultimate Computer are obvious choices for lots of epic, space-based action and adventure. Ballance of Terror or The Enterprise Incident might also work, but I suspect they'll want to get away from the Romulans for the next one. For something a little more cerebral they might look to Where No Man Has Gone Before. If they want to go darker, they could probably get some good mileage out of Wolf in the Fold or Devil in the Dark, though I'm not sure either of those would be sufficiently epic in scope.

Alternatively, they might borrow individual elements from one or more original episodes and build something new out of them. Instead of another "heavy" villain, they might go with someone more like Harry Mudd. Not the cheeky, bumbling Harry Mudd from I, Mudd but the roguishly crafty and dangerous Harry Mudd from Mudd's Women. I can think of ways to create a very space operatic and fun adventure story around something like that, sort of a Pirates of the Carribbean in space.

Lots of possibilities, but I'm willing to bet that some character or situation from the Original Series will play a part in it.

Whatever they do, I ope they stay away from time travel - they have milked that cow so much, she has run dry!!

btw... when it comes to the next film after JJ's, I have just one word as to what I'd do... Klingons. :klingon:

Star Trek 2: The Search For That Goddamn Black Hole Which Caused This God Forsaken Universe In The First Place!

Don't know about the plot, but I would definitely re-design an actual engineering room.

RAMA

Random things I would like to see...

1) Updated Klingons (Less of THIS, more of THIS)

2) Khan as a major villian (Naveen Andrews?)

3) Harry Mudd as a minor character (Seth Rogen?)

4) A strange new world/ New life-form/ New civilization

Kirk swoops out of the shadows

Kirk- Captain Pike

Pike- It's admiral now, you've started things take a look at this guy, murderer, has superhuman strength, leaves a calling card

Card has initials K.N.S

Kirk- I'll look into it.....

The Dark Trek

Kirk- I killed those people on that planet.

Kirk gets on his motorcycle

Spock- Not the Captain we need........but a Captain nonetheless.

The movie goes on to make 1 billion dollars.
