I will be updating this later this week now that the deals are in place. And Broccoli i believe how my site has been debunking the 'abrams wont direct' rumors for weeks (amongst many other things) that I am not 'making it up'.

which doesn't really answer my question. do you have some inside source?

PTM can't tell you his inside sources....
If he did he'd have to kill you....
Or something....

* I'm joking of course *

There is only one problem. All of the actors that have been rumored to play the TOS characters at a younger age are older than the TOS characters were during TOS. And they would need to be considerably younger, to take place during Academy years for example, especially given the amount of time it would have taken Kirk to become Captain of a Starship, and Spock, and Bones, and Scotty, etc...you get the idea. They would need to cast a bunch of teenagers. We're talking about the college years here.

Not this Academy years thing again, I'm gonna scream at the top of my lungs for the millionth time....
THIS IS NOT THE ACADEMY MOVIE !

* If anything it takes place before Where No Man and after Cage *

Hmm..I'm afraid I don't have much confidence in a prequel. I don't believe it worked for Star Wars and it may not work for Star Trek. I honestly believe it was a HUGE mistake to not consider George Takei and an Excelsior series. I believe it would have been a tremendous lift to have an Asian American in a lead role. He proved in ST VI that Captain Sulu would have made a very interesting character.

Also, I believe the latest movie should be in the late part of the 23rd and 24th century eras. That would place it in line with the 1701-B series. I have to believe that designs of ST II-Generations had best designs overall. It's not too luxurious and spacious as the D series and the uniforms rock!
I AM intriqued by the rumor of Matt Damon putting on the Captain's uniform. He is a well established actor who does well in action performances and has stood out as a great lead in the Bourne series. Paramount should go after that possibility.

Someone told me that will be a interview with Abrams saying something more about the reboot, soon.

Stay Tuned.

May not have worked in your opinion but the prequals were finishing off the Star Wars saga, like it or not it wasnt meant to be just the original three so he just finished what he started.

A prequal for Trek or anything else is a completly different matter

Okay, I have a question. I have asked this in a different thread, but no one has taken it seriously (and I can see why), but the new film (from what we know) is STILL about a younger Kirk right? I keep hearing people speculate that Shatner will be in it and it will be about a post VI story or something. I was just wondering what anyone else thought.

Yes younger Kirk
No Shatner
Pre TOS

That help any ?

The Younger Kirk part is a Deduction by "US" (Trek Fans), it's not been "Officially" stated yet.

The NO SHATNER IN THE FILM part isn't exactly true either...

(That's a guess on your part, I'm assuming Woulfe?)

...No one has "Officially" said that They (Shatner & Nimoy) are NOT GOING TO BE IN THE MOVIE.

We DO KNOW for sure that Shatner is being Consulted at the least, as well as Nimoy.

The Pre TOS part is "Official" though. :D

The reason I say No Shatner is this....

Last time Shatner was doing a series and Star Trek at the same time it nearly killed him, this was back when he was doing T. J. Hooker....

He's not that young anymore yanno....

At his age do we want him to keel over from doing several things at once ?

He's also still doing the Priceline ads as well, yanno....

Unless TPTB film his parts during his downtime on Boston Legal and when he's not doing the Priceline ads, and gets back in shape to play 'Old Kirk' again....

I just don't see it happening, sorry....

Nimoy on the other hand is 'retired' no way will he do it again, less they give him something 'meaningful' and 'worth his time' to do the film....

So, again, I just don't see it happening....

* Shrugs *

^ Take a look at the first scene in Search For Spock, Shatner looks tired as heck, he just got off the T.J. Hooker set, however as the film progresses he looks less tired and seems to age backwards as making a film is a hell of a lot less stressful then doing a weekly TV series.

Granted, Boston Legal isn't an action heavy show like Hooker was back in the day, but the point is that The Shat is also quite a lot older then he was back in the day when Hooker was on the air.

* Little know Star Trek factiod *

By that token, the entire TNG cast should have keeled over during the filming of Generations, since they went straight into filming that movie as soon as they were done with "All Good Things..."
