Abrams must think he's pretty damn clever making another Trek movie. He claims that it will 'honor' the original Trek. I cry foul on this. If he really wanted to honor Trek he would do it by NOT making another Trek movie. This is clearly what most of the fans want.
Without Shatner's immense ego and Gene's vision of a sexy, godless, beige, pajama-wearing, four-breasted, no bad emotions, no-conflict, no-zippers, no-buttons, no-dirt, rainbow-warp-drive, manskirt future, there IS NO TREK.
Rather than ripping off Trek and leeching off of Trek's immense popularity, Abrams should...oh wait.
Rather than attempting to pull Trek out of the gutter it died in...hmmm
Rather than attempting to make a newer, 'better Trek' he should make an older, samer Trek...
Ok, the main point is, the new cadet Uniforms look nothing like something a background extra from a 1960's TV show probably would have looked. When I see those uniforms I think: "My god, he's making Trek, but it's different! WTF?"
Even though we never actually saw cadet uniforms in Star Trek, I think we can agree that the original Trek would've done them BETTER.
That's like totally redesigning the Enterprise with a totally new hull proportion, blue grills on the nacelles, huge battleship torpedo launchers attached to the neck, and a big glowing light where the dish used to be, and trying to pass it off for the same ship!
The original creators would never have done anything as stupid as that, because if they had, the fans would've rejected it and Trek would've died instantly.
Let's face it, the swirling nacelle caps ARE TREK.
And this new cast. This Chris Pine character doesn't look like Shat. This recast is a bad idea. If they're going to have someone else try to fill the SHAT's shoes, they may's well just throw a black curly wig on Shat and have Scotty grow a 'stash. The original creators never would've allowed something like that, because they had this little thing called consistancy.
And if there's one thing Trek needs after 40+ years it's for everything to remain looking exactly the same.
Am I right or what?
