Star Trek beat out Il Divo and The Young Victoria for the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

The franchise's losing streak is over!

Sound Editing...The Hurt Locker
Sound Mixing...The Hurt Locker
Visual Effects...Avatar

I'm of two mind. I'm obviously happy for Star Trek, but I'm sorry for Il Divo: they did really a great make up for that.

It was rather obvious compared to the other two.

Congrats to the makeup team though.

Two more awards to go still (CG and sound editing I believe).

I'm shocked this is the first Oscar for Star Trek. I would have thought it would have one a few for makeup, costumes, cinematography, that kind of stuff.

Congratulations to Star Trek!!!! The franchise finally won a very deserved Oscar!!!

See, all they had to do was make a film that grossed over a quarter billion dollars and the franchise could finally win an Oscar. :p

But yeah, great news -- congratulations to the make-up team!

Star Trek loses on Sound Editing and Sound Mixing, trumped by the Hurt Locker.

Lets hope for CG but it's going to be hard agaist Avatar

I'm not surprised Trek lost, but I'm surprised The Hurt Locker won both. I figured there'd be a split with Avatar taking one.

I will be shocked if it beats Avatar in CG but I really don't think its going to happen.

Star Trek was 1 for 4, but it's cool that we are fans of an Oscar-winning franchise/film.

It's a start.. Always thought STII WOK should've got the nod for best visual effects (Rendered Computer graphics, 1st major use in 1982!!)

Props to the makeup team for the win. Personally I would have preferred a film that could have been a contender for screenplay, but I guess sci-fi has to take what it can get.

Heres how big a nerd I am: when I heard Star Trek was nominated for make-up I was imagining Keenser, the alien bridge officer on the Kelvin, the Romulans. Never once did I think of Spock-- until they showed Quinto sitting in the make-up chair. Oh yeah, those aren't his real ears!

I still feel sorry for all those overly engrossed viewers who came back after opening night saying it was the best film ever! It's going to be picture of the year...
