Star Trek WINS Oscar!

What I find kind of funny is that ultimately Avatar didn't get many more than Star Trek did.

I still think Ricardo Montalban should've gotten an Oscar for Star Trek II. If Heath Ledger can win for The Dark Knight, then Ricardo Montalban should've damn well won for Star Trek II. That was the performance of a lifetime and, imo, as good a performance as Heath Ledger's Joker.

Long time coming. I can't help but think that if Avatar hadn't come out there would have been more, and Avatar isn't even an original story, plagiarised as it is from Pocohontas, and even Braveheart!

Boy! That was something else, and after thirty years its about friggin time! Now, if only they get Andy Probert his job back and make him Production Designer, then I'll be pleased as punch.

3/9 is better than 1/4. I also think winning Best Cinematography (the lensing and filming of the film) is a somewhat higher distinction than Best Makeup.

Past movies in the franchise have had equal to superior makeup. First Contact and Nemesis both come to mind. This movie was a mainstream success, and thus that is why it was even nominated in my opinion. FC contact was nominated in this category in 1996, and I think Michael Westmore's make-up was superior.

While I like Michael Westmore's work, the makeup in Nemesis was not superior. To me, it looked obvious by that point where the actor ended and the makeup began. Most aliens at that time were Forehead of the Week aliens that Westmore was known for. In Star Trek, aliens looked far more alien than before, and there was more diversity between them. It looked and felt believable. To me, the makeup for Star Trek was a good step up from Westmore, and that's no slight to him at all.

Congratulations to Star Trek and all those invovled. Hopefully this will mean an influx of money for lots more films and series. Yippyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Its party time!

Like Scotty's little Jem'Hadar/Ewok hybrid friend, the bald guys with tattoos on their heads, the guys with the severe haircuts and pointy ears, and the girl with the green bodypaint? Real diverse
