Look at Janeway, with her lip up, all misty-eyed and everything ... it touches my heart how much she loved Kes, like she birthed her, herself. And Kathryn would never kick her baby bird out of the nest! When she tells Kes she couldn't just let her go into The Void, that she was still needed on Voyager and everything, you know ... it's the strangest thing ... I always end up getting a cinder in my eye, at that moment. Never fails!THE GIFT - Sad Janeway ...
I love this moment and what's more, Kate Mulgrew once said she didn't need to act in that particular scene. Her feelings were genuine. For me that episode is bittersweet because I'm also a bit heartbroken because of Kes's departure. However, I'm also happy about Seven's arrival - so I have mixed feelings about this ep.
