Star Trek V.

But the chimps in suits saw how much Voyage Home made and went...."UNGH! FUNNY! FUNNY MEAN MONEY, MAKE FUNNY MOVIE!" and proceeded to throw their crap at each other.

Those silly executives, wanting to see more of the elements which were universally praised for making the previous Trek movie so wildly successful after a pair of adequate but unexceptional outings. It's like they're only interested in whether audiences respond to things instead of the important questions like whether the Enterprise will decide to rescue that Andorian ambassador from the third Moon.

Oh yes, Nebus, because what works once always will work again.

It was BY DESIGN of the structure of the previous two movies which set up the 'relief', the 'relaxation' of Voyage Home. The humor that came from the characters was largely organic.

What Paramount then demanded was that humor be shoehorned in.

The difference between organic humor and artificial humor is obvious, I should think.

I love Star Trek V. You won't get a better showing for the Kirk-Spock-McCoy friendship, FACT.

The acting seemed very 'real' in those scenes - truly like three old friends.

And the scene where Sybok tries to get Kirk, Spock and McCoy to release their pain. FANTASTIC! And the fact that the three stand united against him at the end of the scene.

Awesome stuff.

The plot's OK, not the strongest, but not the worst (TMP is!) - but its the character scenes that really make this movie great IMO.

Star Trek v is just LAME movie. period. 78 decks, Scotty as a idiot bumping his head like a clown. Also Uhura dancing(Nichols was in her 60s) and traveling to Galactic core in couple of hours. Kirk crew turning against him e.c.c. I did like Kirk/McCoy/Spock friendship but it didnt save the movie from being the worst TOS movie ever.

Right, well I've just seen it for the first time since...well, about Christ's birth.

I enjoyed it a lot. Out of the films, it's more like the original series than any other, and I think the characters are closer to how they are in TOS as well. It's not without its flaws, and a non-fan probably wouldn't get the enjoyment out of it that I did, but I think this is because it's far more about the characters than action. I prefer it to STIV anyway.

You started an entire thread just to bash Star Trek V?

Anyway, I disagree with everything you said. I like Star Trek V, always have and always will.

I've always enjoyed Star Trek V. I don't think it's a particularly good film, but it's always kept me entertained whenever I happen to watch it. The camping sequence is honestly one of my favorite moments of all the Star Trek films. And as a DeForrest Kelley fan, I've always been really impressed with the scene in which he relives the death of his father.

I still think he was the best actor of the cast, and that scene, which with a lesser actor would have sunk to the level of trite melodrama, proves it to me.

I will absolutely agree with this. Nimoy was dependable, and Shatner had a few shining moments. The others were all solid, and everyone had good chemistry with each other - but he totally shone over everyone else.

Nemesis was so bad that Patrick Stewart was embarrassed of it.

Really? In interviews up to and after the release of the movie, Stewart stated that he was very proud and thought the movie was great.

Care to provide a link for your statements?

Howdy!

I am now watching Star Trek V, in my opinion the worst movie of the whole series, or a close second to Nemesis. William Shatner directed this turkey, a turkey as big as old Scotty's gut.

Star Trek V is so bad on so many levels. The only good part of this film is when Kirk, Bones and Spock are out camping together. That's it.

However, the storyline was awful. Makeup and wardrobe was pitiful. For example, the Klingon skulls looks rubbery. The female Romulan ambassador on Nimbus III was such an awful actress who did not act anything like a Vulcan could act. She did not at all fit any other type of Romulan, from her hair, her clothes or her demeanor. The Uhura fan dance, the horses on Nimbus III. Attack of the three breasted cat-woman.

Sybok, what can I say? In the alternate Universe, someone needs to ask about Sybok and be told that he had a piano dropped on his head. I hate to admit it, but I loved the Klingons, because they were so stupid. The captain had the huge metal-band like hair.

Chinese Romulans, rubber faced Klingons, Grandma Uhura shaking her moneymaker, and Kirk, Bones and Spock acting all gay with each other.

Nemesis is the Star Trek V of the TNG series of films. Nemesis was so bad that Patrick Stewart was embarrassed of it. I would like to see it again, but remember being disappointed with it watching it the first time.

Well, yeah...but you know, if they'd just ponied up for a couple of rock men and some decent special effects the movie would be brilliant!

Get in your timeship and I have a feeling they'll be saying something similar about AbramsTrek once all the ejaculate has dried ... maybe about the notion of shooting a movie that doesn't require to be viewed 'through a glass, brightly flared.'

Insert appropriate emoticon, or your foot in mouth, as needed.

Chinese Romulans.
How do you know she's Chinese? And why must all aliens be caucasians in bad makeup -- except Klingons, apparently -- when caucasians aren't even the majority of human beings on this planet?
I thought she looked more Japanese, myself. But there is a great deal more ethnic diversity on this planet and we'd assume in the universe so why should all Romulans look alike?

Well...they have black Vulcans, so Asian Romulans wouldn't be too hard to imagine.

Star Trek V might have had a corny story and sub par effects, but it captured the family feel of the characters right out of the TV show....i love that about the movie.

Its a fun romp with some old friends.....what more do you need.
