Star Trek: The Untold Voyages

Bryan Levy

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
This was a pretty good little miniseries from the (second) Marvel era. I find a lot of that stuff to be hot or miss, mostly miss, but I liked this one a lot. Each issue covers an adventure from the “second five year mission”. I was surprised about that wording, because I was pretty sure that idea had been done away with by the late ‘80’s. But maybe I’m wrong. I also didn’t recognize the name of Glenn Greenberg, the writer, and I’ve read a lot of Trek comics. But he seemed to have a handle on the characters and how to do a Star Trek done in one story. Anywho, grab this one on the dollar bin of available.

Glenn was a longtime editor at Marvel -- among other things, he had a lengthy stint as an editor in the Spider-Man office, and he also got Timothy Zahn to do a Starlord miniseries -- and he also wrote a couple of Starfleet Corps of Engineers novellas, The Art of the Deal and The Art of the Comeback.

The second five year mission after The Motion Picture has been a standard part of the Enterprise crew's history. The one that went away, was a second five year mission between The Original/Animates Series and TMP.

Glenn is a great guy!

I remember trying to track down this mini when it was "hot" and ultimately paying the outrageous price of $5 an issue.

Yeah. I knew they were hideously marked up at the time, but hey, I was desperate enough to pay it at the time.

I know that kind of spending on Star Trek. I bought the 2013 game on release day. Would’ve been better to just flush the $60 down the toilet.
