I would love to see TMP once or twice a year in the theaterTMP is in my regular rotation, I watch it about every six months or so. Been tough holding out for the theater showing.

I got my ticket. I'm going to see TMP on Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00 at the Solomon Pond Mall in Framingham, MA.

I’m seeing it at an AMC theater. Poke around and see if one is in your area.
No actually I was just kidding I agree 100% why would the SLV need to be on the DVD it makes no sense at all they're going to restore all the footage from the theatrical and then all the parts from the directors and then leave out for five minutes of footage from that make up the SLV? That makes no sense at all so of course all three should be on a BluRay that's why I made that comment about DVD in the first place like why
I'm seeing it in Bellevue, Washington, folks. And there are quite a few people going!
I’m really excited for this. It will be another trek movie I see in theaters and I’m excited to “hear” the film. I best the sound in the theater will make this movie better.

Went to see it last night. It looked great on the big screen and loved the surround sound in the theater.
This was my first time seeing the original 1979 theatrical version. I was surprised at 2 omissions. One the Spock tearing up scene. I thought that was important to the story. And the other was the omission of the destruct order. It was a bit sudden when they cut to the scene of Ilia in her quarters and she was already wearing the head peace but that wasn't as big of a deal. Most of the other things missing from the SLE were pretty minor that I could recall. Some of those SLE scenes were in the DE though.
I know some complain about the long sequence as they travel into the cloud and then into the alien vessel--but honestly I never minded that. I think Goldsmith's eerie square during the sequence helps a lot. The special effects were really top notch for a 1979 film. And there were little things I noticed on the big screen that I just never noticed before. Like when the pod with Kirk and Scott is backing up into the port I never noticed the guys face in the portal/window next to the port. I mean, that's very minor and has nothing to do with the story, but things like that, that you pick up on when you see it on a large screen.
It was also great to see the original Star Trek cast basically in their prime (and alive). It was nice to see the gang back together.

I was able to watch it on Sunday and it was nice watching the movie on the big screen again. I'm so used to the other cuts that some of the scenes, as Damian says, feel jarring because of they are cut. Regardless, I enjoyed it. After all, this was the movie that introduced me to Star Trek and got me hooked.
I got to see the film last night. I was particularly struck by the sound design which was more nuanced than I remember, certainly better than I can hear from my own home setup. There were very subtle sound effects throughout the movie...buttons being pushed, footsteps in the corridors and in the engine room, the sound of a tricorder scanning and the sound of the radio transmission "static" coming from Spock's station. In general, the movie was nice and loud...not overbearing but loud and clear. The really loud moments like the jump to warp speed, the VGer weapons and light probe on the bridge were incredibly powerful.
There were a few visual things I've missed before too. In the Rec Room scene with the crew, I've been able to pick out the Native American woman before but last night noticed a Native American man as well in one of the crowd shots. Some of the VGer flyover shots revealed an enormous amount of detail that went into those models that I had never noticed before.
All in all, it was a great experience and I really enjoyed seeing this on the big screen again after nearly 40 years.

Yeah, me too. There's nothing like seeing a film in a movie theater. The larger screen helps you see things you can't at home--even though it's pretty much the same medium (Blu-Ray). And the sound was excellent. Sometimes you felt like you were on the bridge with the crew with the various sounds going on around you. And hearings Goldsmith's score in surround sound is always pleasing to the ears
