Star Trek: The Continuation (Film SPOILERS)

I'm going to cross-post this to the Fan Fiction forum, but thought it deserved to be here as well.

Ever since seeing the new movie on Thursday, I've spent most of my time here on the BBS in this forum, participating in various discussions, and I have found myself wondering about the possibility of - and interest in - a collaborative effort to create an ongoing set of continuing adventures for Kirk and Co. spinning off of the events of the new movie while we wait for the inevitable sanctioned continuation(s) of the 'nuTrek' universe from Abrams and Co.

Even though the original Star Trek TV series was less about plot and more about character, my feeling is that Abrams and Co. left the door open for someone to create an ongoing plot-driven story involving the political upheaval that Vulcan's destruction would create, both in terms of the Federation itself as well as relations with the Klingons and the Romulans, as well as the Enterprise's mission of exploration (as so eloquently [re]stated by 'Spock Prime' in the film's closing moments). I could also see events from the 'prime timeline' playing themselves out in some fashion, such as confrontations with Kahn, V'Ger, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it too soon to think about possibly continuing the adventures of the 'Abramsverse' in the form of an ongoing fanfiction project? Where else could a hypothetical fan-driven 'virtual continuation' of the film and its universe go?

I love the idea and, when written well, I'd definately read it.

Just pick some of the best (or most logical) items, races and events and create something entirely new, that would be awesome.

Great idea. As I've been saying elsewhere, I think this movie has left us with Trekverse that reflects modern social and political issues again. I hope they play that out in the movies but it also opens up the door for some really quality fan fiction.

Thanks for the replies. I've got a couple of questions, though:
1) Would either of you two be interested in being part of a collaborative fan-driven 'nuTrek' continuation? I think it's something that could work well, but would really like to try and put together something that has more than just one person involved.

2) Do either of you two have any ideas about where the 'nuTrek' universe could go beyond what I mentioned?
