STAR TREK teaser completed

There will be a starfield, and the opening bars of the classic theme music, then we'll hear Spock say something. This will be followed by several quick shots showing glimpses of the crew. Maybe one or two glimpses of the ship. Then the music will inexplicably kick up and we'll see shots of the one single action sequence they have completed filming. Kirk will say, "Fire!" or something to that effect, and then "STAR TREK....CHRISTMAS 2008" will be emblazoned on the screen. The whole thing will be over in 47 seconds.

Sounds great to me! How is that "lame"? What would you have done?

No way will we see that much this early. It'll be a starfield, we'll get a few bars of music, then pan down or over to an orbital drydock where the Enterprise is under construction. The engineering hull will be mostly in tact, and the struts. Perhaps there will be no nacelles yet. The saucer will be skeletal with only a few skin sections in place. As the moment arrives when the ship becomes recognizable, a smidgeon of the fanfare will sound. Then "Christmas 2008" or "Stardate 122508" will appear. We may not even get the title yet (though we all already know what it is).

A teaser is meant to generate excitement and buzz without actually giving anything real away. No way we'll see the crew yet. It'll be all SFX.

BTW Don't be so sure the titles used in the teaser are the same as what will appear in the final version of the movie.

Just a heads up.

Looking forward to seeing the teaser... trailer... anything, really...

This is your brain on Star Trek...

I won't be seeing Cloverfield. Apologies to J.J.

I'll catch the teaser online....and it will, in all probability, be lame. After the initial "OMGThatwasawesome!!!11" most of us will just settle in and wait for the proper trailer.

I agree with everything except for shots of the crew and possibly Kirk uttering the word "Fire". If anything, 15% of the trailer will consist of the movie company logo and blackness. I HATE IT when they do that on trailers :scream:

^Then what did you think of the Dark Knight's trailer? No pic, just the logo and Alfred speaking.

That's the thing with teasers, they usually have a symbol and a title card, and maybe a few beats of music or a narration. But not much else.

The Trailer will have some money shots.

Watching that felt as gratifying as undressing a $12 hoooker.

I thought these theater teasers were always at least 2 minutes long? At least, all of the ones I've seen were.

Don't get teasers mixed up with trailers. A teaser often doesn't include any footage from the movie, or sometimes will have specially shot footage. I remember one of the Trek films had a teaser that just consisted of various scenes from past films and TOS being projected onto a model of the 1701.

That said, some teasers do go beyond the call of duty. One of the best is Hitchcock's Psycho which was just Alfred giving a tour of the sets (with of course the famous punchline at the end). I've also seen teasers that just consist of behind-the-scenes footage.

And then there was the teaser for Superman: The Movie which was just a shot of some clouds and the cast names appearing on the screen.

Hopefully the Trek teaser will have a bit more substance since it will debut about 2 months into filming. But it could just as easily be the Alexander Courage fanfare, a bunch of words on the screen ("A legend reborn", etc), and then the logo.

The most important thing to come out of such a teaser would be official confirmation of the title, since my understanding is it's still not set in stone that the film will just be called "Star Trek". It won't be called Star Trek XI in any event, but I'll be very surprised if the movie isn't given a subtitle by the studio.

Cheers!

Alex

That was Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It also had a nice voice over by Christopher Plummer. One of my favorite teasers.

I don't think the teaser will show us anything that will actually be in the movie.

I hate teasers. They never stick around enough to finish the job.

*rim shot*

There you go. Two for the price of one. I'm not stingy. :)

On topic, I happen to like the Transformers teaser. It was kind of dark, and just gave you an inkling of what it would look like. Plus, I'm old school - what's scary isn't what you see, it's what you don't.

Here's What I'm Talking About

And I'm not really what you'd call a fan of the original cartoon.

The Dark Knight trailer gave me chills, but that's because I'm the ultimate Batman fanboy. Hell, Adam West gave me chills. ;)

Anyway, a well-done teaser is awesome. If it's not really that great, though, it just ends up frustrating. :(

What's with all the hate over the Cloverfield film??

I'd love to check it out. Seeing a teaser trailer for Trek XI sweetens the deal.

Right there with you. I'm jazzed about it.

I think one of the things we're most anticipating (if not "the thing") is how the Enterprise will look.
The teaser will apparently be the first time we get a glimpse of the ship. And, it will be under construction. So, we won't see the ship in all its glory. And won't for who knows how much longer after that.
Now, that's a tease.

For sure! I was gonna go check Cloverfield out anyway. It looks pretty cool IMO. Seeing the Trek teaser is going to make it all the more worth it. I usually see this stuff as a cell phone video on YouTube. For Trek I guess I can make an exception :D

The 'Coverfield' Hate [tm]

Comes from people who don't like the whole 'Viral' marketing angle the film is useing to promote itself.

Back in the days before Intrnet no one did that sorta thing, right, no huge time cross promition with McD's plugging the film MONTHS in advance, right ?

No we'll show you a pixilated image of the film's FX shots just to get you to come see what all the fuss is about long before the film hits the theaters, right ?

Folks think that this 'Viral' advertiseing is a 'NEW' thing, P.T. Barnum wouldn't agree at all....

^^ Indeed. Does no one remember the Mc D's Klingon Happy meal??
or those cuddly little Ewoks months before those films were released??

Also..
Sometimes part of the appeal of wanting to go see a film is not knowing every minute detail of the film before buying the popcorn.

I generally achieve this by not paying much attention to the "viral marketing" nonsense.
