we all regret the things we have done sometimes. you'll learn to live with the flashbacks

and the Braga quote doesnt say anything about Sturgeon receiving a royalty. just a mention of a legal issue. so where's the extra info from?

something with a genuine source rather than "i did a google search" - note also the post was edited since i responded

people arguing against vaccines use google searches as reasoning. theres a difference between "actual journalism" and "i found this online"

I doubt that someone is Brannon Braga. But with a little bit of heart and soul he might.

A "google search" isn't a source. It FINDS sources. The sources in question come straight from Braga. I'd think that'd be pretty convincing. Dismissing someone's source because it was found via Google is lazy and silly.

Maybe but I was addressing what you said, not this new argument.

And if you're refering to Braga, the fact that the fandom doesn't like him doesn't change the fact that he probably knows what he's talking about in this instance due to his proximity to the procedings.

i still have yet to see a quote from Braga or anybody stating that Theodore Sturgeon recieves royalties when "Amok Time" characters are mentioned. providing that google search did not deliver

Tragedy seems to be the norm for lots of characters in Trek.

Kirk (prime): One of the few survivors of the Tarsus IV disaster
Kirk (Kelvin): Dad sacrifices himself during an attack by a time travelling Romulan mining ship to let his family and crew get away to safety
    McCoy: Divorced
Scotty: Fine; is initially killed by Nomad but revived, and later loses nephew
    Chekov: Fine
    Sulu: Fine

Ben & Jake Sisko: Lost wife/mother in the Battle of Wolf 359
Kira: Fought against the Cardassian Occupation as a part of the Bajoran Resistance
Odo: Not recognized as a sentient being and experimented on; held guilt for actions as chief of security during the Cardassian Occupation
O’Brien: borderline racism towards Cardassians for forcing him to kill one of them; had never killed before prior to that
Bashir: had learning disabilities as a child; was genetically enhanced despite breaking Federation law
Quark: End up disgraced, fired and broke for banging the boss’s sister
Jadzia: initially rejected for the symbiont program and is haunted by it
Ezri: is the new host of the Dax symbiont after Jadzia is murdered by Gul Dukat; is unprepared for the role

Janeway: Father drowned, later finds out her fiancé has moved on after being stranded in the Delta Quadrant for years
Chakotay: Dad killed fighting the Cardassians, resulting in joining the Maquis to fight them
B’Elanna: felt alienated for being half-Klingon, dad walked out when she was five, dropped out of Starfleet Academy
Paris: Dishonorably discharged from Starfleet over a fatal training exercise, served time in a penal settlement
Tuvok: resigned from Starfleet due to experience with humans on the Excelsior and stays away from Starfleet for half a century because of it
    Kim: Fine
Seven: Assimilated when she was a child along with her parents
Neelix: entire family killed and homeworld destroyed in a war
Kes: Dad dies when she’s one, is captured and tortured by the Kazon
    The Doctor: Fine

Archer: Father dies when he was 12
Trip: Sister killed in unprovoked attack by the Xindi
T’Pol: Had memory wiped after assignment to capture rogue agent; later on is victim of mind meld rape and develops a trellium-D addiction
Reed: Grandfather killed by mine left over from some world war; recruitment by Section 31 at a young age eventually leads to betraying Archer's trust
Phlox: Estranged relationship with one of his sons
Mayweather: Grew up on a cargo ship evading pirate hijackings, loses father while far from home
Sato: Expelled from Starfleet for breaking someone’s arm over a poker game

The tragic backstories of the SNW characters are in line with Trek history.

A moment ago you asked for a genuine source, and you've been provided information coming from Braga himself. Now you're asking for a direct quote. And if you see a written quote, will you then ask for a recording? Then a video? Then to speak to Braga in person? Then to make sure he isn't force to say this? Mind-controlled?

I mean how far will you be taking those goalposts?

Braga didn't say the thing that someone claimed he said. the specific statement was that Theodore Sturgeon got a royalty payment every time the Amok Time character was mentioned. someone provided a quote that said there was a 'legal issue' or somesuch and you're trying to gaslight me into believing one equals the other. sheer nonsense

This was a 6 or a 7 at best, until the last 10-15 min. The last act really elevated the material significantly. This was like a mediocre TOS or TNG episode until they tied it together with a great theme and sold it with some nice, genuine emotionally- resonant stuff.

This cast is great, and the writing has definitely captured the classic Trek feel.

    1) Let's NOT bring in drama/issues from other boards. We have enough of our own.

    2) captainmkb, watch your step. I'm getting a lot of reports about you lately. You're here (one assumes) to discuss Trek, not to continue whatever dispute(s) you have elsewhere. At some point, my tolerance for this will evaporate. You're on official notice.

    Back to SNW now.

He mentioned it at a convention in 2010, no recording just a report from someone from TrekMovie who attended
Found it in the BTS section for T'Pol on Memory-Alpha

Edit: Ah, this is the same source Turtletrekker gave

Well, that's fine and all. And, we're on the same page when it comes to "clutter". In fact, over the years, I've given away or sold off tons of stuff, with the goal of being as "spartan" as possible, since turning 50 y/o two years back. That's why I am a fan of streaming services in general, though I do keep a few videos around, knowing that they have yet to be put on a server (like Fox's "Celebrity Bootcamp", starring Greg Brady or something like it).

However, I hate the idea of corporations controlling what IPs to release (such as Disney being afraid of putting out controversial films like "Songs of the South") one hand, and the state, such as California mandating total replacement of gasoline fueled cars for sale, even if fuel standards meet clean air mandates (no more classic American "muscle" cars?).

That's why I tend to lean towards a free market approach: replacement by making something BETTER. People will flock to new and better things, which is the nature of the species. Come up with a car that captures one's imagination? It could run on a can of beans, and it would sell if it felt "cool" to drive it. And as for something like "Song of the South": those stories depicted in those films are based on African stories, which were "translated" to fit the environment in the new world, and became a part of the American Tall Tales mythos. I understand that the setting is problematic, but I would hate to see those stories, based on African folklore, to be lost because modern audiences don't know the context of those stories.

Oh, and to keep it on topic: Hemmer is cool! I like the fact that there is a sarcastic character on the show.

This is where the difference between a 10 episode order and a conventional 20+ episode season is really felt. This could’ve been a more powerful episode if it was split into two parts.
