Star Trek: Strange New World

I like this idea a lot and I think it could have TV series potential, or miniseries at least.

Have any of you read the Fabled graphic novels? They're about characters from stories and fairy tales such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and the Three Little Pigs, etc. They had to flee their Fabled homelands to escape an evil force that was taking over and make new lives for themselves in our real modern world.

Anyway, the Fabled people that could pass for human were able to live among normal humans and interact with them, but the Fabled that couldn't pass for humans, like the three little pigs, had to live hidden away on a "Farm" and there was definitely tension between the two groups and building resentment, especially with the ones who were forced to stay on the Farm.

So, for this series there could be a similar situation if this world, for example, is one of the many that have a race that looks essentially human. The human crewmembers of this stranded ship would be able to pass as natives of this planet, but the more alien members of the crew wouldn't be able to without great risk, so the potential for different factions to arise would be interesting to see.

Granted, Star Trek has shown that people can be genetically altered to pass as another race, but if the ship crashed down on the planet unexpectedly, there wouldn't be enough time to do that.

That was something I had already considered, yes. The only way the crew would've been prepared, and it would've been an alternative idea that would've been something of a cheat, was if the Federation was already aware of this world to a degree and had actually arranged a "duckblind" mission for a team of researchers like Insurrection. If you have something along those lines, again with a race that was further along in technological development, just not warp capable; then you could suppose a starship along the Oberth classes could be shot down with a relatively small crew intact. The duckblind would explain how they were in touch with Starfleet and give them a base of operations to work from initially. Because the premise gives them direct communication with the 'Fleet, there has to be a something planetside powerful enough to broadcast home.

So I'm assuming the natives are humanoid, relatively close in biology as well, and the crew can blend in easily enough if the need arises.

My other assumption would be a standard escape pod is equipped with a long range subspace radio and the necessities to set up shelter and survive until help arrives. Plus the premise allows for at least one shuttle or runabout to survive intact, so even if there is a radically different appearance to the natives, you'd probably have the facilities to make a passable disguise that will stand up to scrutiny.

But Fables not withstanding, (I don't follow the series too much, but I've glanced at the occasional odd issue), since Star Trek tends to have worlds populated with human looking aliens often, it was almost a given that such would be the case. Especially if you're talking a TV series or miniseries where budgets may dictate exactly how the natives would look on film.

Later!

I'm always open to insectoids that aren't at all humanoid in either sketches or photoshopped CGI from "Starship Troopers". I'd love to see more of the TOS-era species such as The Medusans in Late (post-Nem) TNG. The Horta, etc.

Okay, I just had time to start thinking about this a little bit. What type of characters would you like to see stranded on a strange new world?

One idea I had about the crew is that Star Fleet does not entirely trust the crew aboard, suspecting at least one or more of them to be spies. A fact that comes out when a senior officer dies shortly after the ship crashes, creating inherent distrust among the crew.

Another thought, i had is that the crash landing is partly responsible for the global war, a jettisoned anti-matter pod decimated "London" as the ship fell to the strange new world (which will never be named).

Also, I like the idea of truly alien species, perhaps even a female andorian captain.
