Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

It looks Klingon or Cardassian, if anything. Perchance there was originally a script calling for a Klingon station in DSC and this was designed for that then repurposed? Any designer notes to that effect?

It's a former prison, converted to secret HQ use by S31. That's why it has the cell-like layers and the "guards' watchtower" extension.

Kar Kantar's bird of prey has arrived and I love it. Follows the classic lines but has interesting surface texture. The bird painting looks nifty. It's at a comfortable size and weight. When I beheld it, I thought it would work great as a TOS movie-era refit.

It also vaguely reminds me of the ancient artifact scene in TNG Masks. I actually really like it. And I like the back story on its original purpose.

Indeed. According to Memory Alpha:
Located in empty space at the coordinates 7-4 Mark 5.6, officially the base was listed as a former penal colony which, as of the mid-23rd century, had been abandoned over a century ago.

...

Holding over from its use as a penal colony, some sections of the station were labeled cells. Cardinal directions were used to designate certain areas of the station, including the east workshop and west workshop.
Interestingly Sloan said S31 didn’t have stations or headquarters and that all information was stored in agents’ minds. This was probably a core policy change in the Agency after the Control debacle.

Or he said that cause he was about to die and take Julian and Miles with him if he only trapped Julian a little while longer ;)

That was the real Section 31. Not whatever that was in Discovery.
They say in the episode that it's a former prison.
Apologies. I haven’t seen that episode in years

TrekCore posted a new blog about the Universe and Online collections: https://blog.trekcore.com/2021/06/star-trek-official-starships-september-2021-preview/

It was shared in the Facebook group by Izo Iscariot, it's how I spotted it.

Besides preview pictures, the blog confirms Issue 7 of the STU collection is the Wallenberg-class Tug 130/27. It comes after issue 6, Narek's snakehead. While we know this Starfleet tug can attach several transport modules (Image link: https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Wallenberg_class?file=Wallenberg_configs.jpg ), TUG 130/27 comes with no strings attached. Perhaps if the line continues long enough, we might get the USS Nightingale with some modules?

On the STO side, issue 18 is the Tholian Recluse-class carrier, following on from Starfleet's Edison-class in issue 17.
After the Tholian webspinner from ENT and the 23rd century version from TOS-R, this is the third Tholian ship published by Eaglemoss.

Edit: The Recluse and the Wallenberg-class are due in September.

STO is about to drop two "25th Century reimagining" ships - the updated Malachowski (Clarke-Class) and an updated Oberth (Grissom-Class). The Clarke looks quite good! Would like to see it added to the Eaglemoss STO line. The Grissom notsomuch.

Both will have consoles linked to the Genesis Project, which makes sense for the Grissom but not the Clarke... unless there's a new plotline coming up regarding the Lukari restoration project (which uses Genesis in all but name) and a Clarke-Class will feature as an NPC?

The T6 Clarke will be able to use the Miranda ship parts, so that could be their justification.

Ah! Finally now some folks can have their Oberth’s in STO!

I honestly never knew why people wanted them so badly. They needed to be heavily upgraded to do any kind of meaningful damage in combat. Otherwise they’d be vaporized at the first mine quad they came across. Total nerfballs since their TSFS debut

Well I would guess that eaglemoss is going to do what they did with the Orville line only a few ships to test market. If so I would guess the Rocinante and the Razorback are the two most likely. After that I would guess the Nauvoo/ Behemoth/ Medina Station would be likely. Then stuff that was key the Donnager, the Canterbury, Tycho Station, maybe an earth destroyer. After that you can then dig into things (if sales warrant). Ships from both Mars and Earth Fleet, some belters ships, Mao’s yacht etc.
Don't forget the Protogen stealth ships, they were pretty key ships early on.

I actually have an halfway decent plastic model of the Roci that I found on eBay for like $7 years ago.
