Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I’m intrigued as to the different bridge module - from the rear view - and would like to see what specs EM we’re going off.

As the TrekCore review mentions: it does reflect the first iteration of the bridge module - but not what appeared onscreen.

TrekCore has just released a comprehensive review of the XL E-A that seems quite dead-on. Lots of hi-res photos of the model. Pretty much covers everything we've discussed - and lamented - here.
even this trekyards review (which is sponsored by eaglemoss) points out all the flaws here.

i find it hard to believe ben robinson et al are oblivious to this model's shortcomings. totally expect them to fix some of these issues for an NCC-1701 version somewhere down the road. they probably won't fix the sculpt problems, but the oversized registry decals, some of the paint issues, and maybe even add detail to the saucer rim with the use of paint apps. maybe.

Galactica can be pre-ordered. Any valid codes lurking around?

Also, OV-165 and Tholian web spinner delivered today. Curiously, no picture of the original web spinner in the mag. Wonder if we could get that as a model, too? (I find both versions look nifty).

OV 165 arrived today. I was really looking forward to this because I love pre federation ships and “history of space flight” ships. It is a fantastic model but just don’t look underneath it coz it is so so plain.

My use Kerala arrived today. Neat little ship. Definitely compliments the Shenzhou.

My model arrived with the magazine but without the subscriber gifts. Anyone else missing these items as well?

Kerala arrived today as well with no subscriber gifts, just model & magazine. I don’t seem to have the issues some have had with the deflector being crooked.

any interesting tidbits in the booklet?
I found it interesting that the Kerala was originally the Curie & was going to be a ship that was experimenting with new warp technology that caused it to become deformed. That storyline line morphed into what happened with the Glenn.

It then got used for the Battle of the Binary Stars because originally there were six ships & when Eaves read the script saw they were naming all these ships so needed to throw other models in.

The Kerala really is a nice design. I can see how it was in the running to be the Shenzhou. Still curious why it appears to have two bridges though. Almost seems like it was supposed to split up into two ships during combat or something. Seems to have more Disco-like nacelles too.

Does anyone here have the XL Enterprise E? I've watched some youtube vids and it looks like a good model, I would like some opinion from some of the people on this board before picking one up. As for the Discovery designs such as the Kerala I think they look quite good, although I still feel they don't fit the assumed TOS esthetic at all.

I have the E-E. Good model, just would’ve preferred the Nemesis paint scheme. Sturdy model (I tend to be rough on them).

I had no complaints about the XL 1701-E. The aztec patterning looks a little weird (sparse, somehow?) close up, but good from a distance.

enterprise-E XL is a great ship. its few flaws - thick saucer, weird join in the engineering hull, small bussard collectors - all seem a lot less glaring compared to what i'm seeing of the enterprise-A.

That's interesting!

First of all: "Experimenting with new warp technology" sounds a HELL of a lot more convincing than "surfing on an intergalactic shroom network". Also, that it wasn't supposed to be the sister ship of the Discovery in the first place.

I always thought the monumentally stupid shroom drive (the stupid is the shroom-part - the "immediate jump" part is actually interesting) was part of Fuller's original idea for the season (because Stamets was a shroom scientist, and Fuller was still in place when he was cast). If we find out that whole shroom drive storyline actually WASN'T part of Fuller's story treatment, I would both be really surprised and actually much more horrendously shocked about how the producers messed the series up.

The battle of the binary stars originally only having six(!) Federation starships is also much more in line with the timeframe of the show and the (assumed) size of the Federation: Immediately having Dominion war sized fleet at your disposal was a late DS9/VOY- thing - even in TNG it usually took a while until they asembled half a decent fleet. It would also have been a much more intense (because more intimate) battle than the "smash starships together untill the screen is filled"-apporach we actually got in the final product.

Regarding the model:
I like it. But the color is IMO a little off-putting. The ships appear all way darker on screen, this white-ish paint is unfamiliar, and makes the windows hard to see. Also, it's an upside-down Shenzhou. I don't havve a problem with that. But it would have been better to just turn it back around, and sell it as another configuration of the same class.

What’s wrong with shroom as opposed to any other translocation catalyst, say tapping into extradimensional energy, drawing planetary life-force or using another substance/crystal (like when Equinox harvested nucleogenic particles)?
