Can anyone who has the XL Excelsior provide some scans or photos of the new concept art in it? There's a few new angles of a design I built a CG model of years back, and that I'd never seen before. Thanks!

I came to the same conclusion. (But don't tell this to Eaglemoss, I want to get an Elkins model in the regular collection )

never thought i'd really want this thing, but it's a solid model. all the molded detail and etched hull plating makes up for the monochromatic paint job and they did their best try to break it up with some color where they could.

pretty good special, bring on the son'a command ship plz.

@mindx2 based on my lurking on the facebook fan group, this is extremely common, but easily repaired.

How does that compare in size to the EM Enterprise-E? A solid hunk of metal probably isn't the best material to work with, but since I saw the movie, I always wanted a diorama of the -E and the Scimitar locked together post-ramming.

Hm, speaking of, I wonder with all the barrel-scraping they're doing, is it possible they might do release of the Nemesis -E (the model is based on the Insurrection/FC version, which is doubly weird, because the cover on the magazine is the NEM version, and the orthos appear to be an entirely new model, but I'm sure everyone already went over this four hundred pages ago).

I really hope we'll get the Nemesis E as well, in fact it's #1 on my wants list. Ben said something about it in one of the more recent interviews, but I didn't really understand it.

According to Memory Alpha the EM models and magazine renders are based on a non screen-used model that was built by David Lombardi for possible use in Insurrection. The front cover image is indeed the Nemesis version, but I don't know whether that model still exists... If any of the 3 screen-used models were still available EM probably would have used those, so maybe it's an old image? But it shouldn't be too hard to reconstruct the Nemesis configuration. That would make for a great issue 180.

Wasn't the DST model of the Enterprise-E derived from the original Nemesis CGI model? That was going back a bit, must have been 2006 ish?

I just read on Memory Alpha that at least three different CG versions of the Galaxy class were used for the various shows and movies. ILM built the first model for "Generations", Digital Muse re-textured it for DS9 and VOY, Gabriel Koerner updated it again for ENT "These are the Voyages"... Does anyone know which version was used for the Eaglemoss model and renders? Or did they use an unofficial / non screen-used build? A few pages back pst called the sculpt incredibly flawed.

Interesting observation. I knew they made a special model for the Venture variant, but I had no idea they had all those. Perhaps something was mentioned in one of the E-D magazines?

I thought the Venture was just the four-foot physical model with some of the AGT nubbins put back on the nacelles (but backwards). And, IIRC, Gabe's model was entirely new and not based on the old GEN model (he specifically designed it as a compromise between the four-footer's detailing and the six-footer's proportions, plus the shinier movie-grade paintjob from GEN). And there's also Tobias Richter's CG model that was used for TNG-R shots where the original footage had been lost. That's probably the closest CG match to the six-footer, since it would've been designed to be indistinguishable on-screen, with no touch-ups, tweaks, or improvements.

just going off looks, the eaglemoss version is the DS9/voyager generic galaxy-class/USS challenger model, based on that wonky deflector dish. but that’s just my guess.
yeah that one was also a mash up of the 4 foot and 6 foot models, but it was almost exclusively used to replace missing shots of the 4 footer, so i'd say it's closer to that model. it's got the kind of squatter shape and heavier hull panels.

But it also has the secondary hull shape much closer to the 6, thankfully. :)

...what does PORLINK mean, and since when do the Romulans use the Latin alphabet?

My first thought is that that's supposed to be the Romulan text in the symbol, but the printer didn't have the Romulan font so it came out as english letters. The only issue with that theory is that, in every version I can find, there are more than seven characters of text (though it's not always the same).

    Edited to Add:

Since I'm the most recent post, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what the deal is with this bad boy.

    IMG_1928.jpg

It just popped up in a Starship Collection ad on Facebook with no information beyond, you know, some text saying I should subscribe to the Starship Collection and a short looping animation of it rotating back and forth between the front-left and front-right. It looks like a KT-ish design from the nacells, but I've done a quick, cursory Google and found nothing about a U.S.S. Saratoga, NX-2501. The model is so low-detail, the only thing I can think of it being from is the Fleet Command mobile game, but I can't see looking like it on that game's wiki (I deleted the game itself because it was full of assholes, was an insanely-long clock-watching game, and it was uncomfortably forward about wanting all of my money in as large chunks as possible).

Is it perhaps the ship that appears in the background when the Enterprise docks, then blips past imperceptibly fast during the construction montage at the end of Star Trek Beyond (before the Salcombe shows up)? They've both got Reliant-ish rollbars. I assumed it was meant to be the Kelvin version of the Stargazer since it was namedropped over the tannoy when they cut inside.

    EDIT: This one:
