Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

They really mucked up the sides of the saucer, didn't they?

I was a subscriber for two issues. I had issues with the quality of the models. One of my Enterprises had a broken nacelle, the paint was not in the lines, and there were other egregious errors. I had an expectation of what a $20 model will look like. It was not what I got, so I canceled.

Seeing that image, it only confirms for me my decision not to continue.

This one is more than bad paint or a couple of bent nacelles. It's fundamentally incorrect as a representation of the ship it's supposed to be. The bridge module they used in particular was an obscure little-known middle state between the Phase II bridge and what eventually became the Trumbull refit seen in TMP. How they found that version of the design would be monumentally impressive if it wasn't straight-up wrong.

Eaglemoss in the UK have emailed me to state that they are going to be using DPD next day delivery now rather than Royal Mail on orders worth more than £50. That means you get a one-hour time slot for the delivery plus you can track where the van and your parcel are on delivery day. You get email when the parcel enters their system and a delivery slot has been assigned. You can also arrange for delivery to be deferred to another day or to be made to a collection point instead. I have only had problems with DPD once when they forgot to unload a load of parcels from a van that had broken down during the bad weather earlier this year. It took them about a week to realise what had happened.

Holy cow, that is awful. I'll be refusing my pre-ordered one.

I love that ship! But what they did with the side of the saucer and especially the bridge dome just hurts...:(
And a bit more detail in the dish would have been nice, too. As it is, I won't be buying. Which is really a shame - this ship is probably the only one where I would shell out this amount of money for a large sized model.

Well, well, well, they still have the option to make a large-scale Enterprise refit (with no "A") and fix all those issues! :D
Get it done!

The secondary hull and engines really aren't too bad, actually. They just needed to completely retool how the primary hull looks.

Thanks. It's...difficult to fathom what they were thinking. Anyone know if Eaglemoss have addressed it? I don't Twitter, but I hope they've had harsh feedback about this one.

That's what's baffling. They have the CGI Constitution refit, the one made for the director's edition of TMP, and also used in the Ships of the Line calendars. It even appears in the magazines. And yet, three times already, they've screwed up the model somehow.

The recent Eaglemoss magazine mentions we saw a graphic of a three-nacelled Freedom class in TNG. Huh? Anyone seen that?

Side note, Memory Alpha now identifies the USS Franklin NX-326 as a Freedom class (22nd century) ship.

They mean the Niagara class. I agree it’s a weird way to describe it but probably the most accurate, considering the hull details they shared that slightly differed from its later Galaxy-style cousins and the fact that they were contemporaries with each other.

Strange they would reuse an already established class name for a new ship. But, alternate universe an’ all that! :)

was actually pretty tempted to order this until photos of the model in hand started to show up online. the registry on the side of the saucer is particularly egregious.

maybe they'll fix some of these issues with the inevitable NCC-1701.

Wow... that's something 8 year old me would have done in the 1980's building my first model kit and not something that I'd expect from a professionally made supposedly premium product.
