Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Haven't had a look at the binders: Do you have to punch holes into the magazines in order to insert them?

No, they slide into a plastic hold, like a plastic strap at the bottom of shower swing doors.

Shuttles arrived today, complete with note of free Type-15 replacement. For the life of it I can't find any labelling mistake on that shuttle. It's 02 Aldrin on the model and photos.

No, they use a system where you place pins at the top and bottom of the spine that go into the middle of each magazine. Interesting idea on paper, but I've damaged the paper on some of them trying to get the pins to slide in. Honestly, I think I prefer 3-ring binders (with pre-punched holes in the magazines) to this, in retrospect.

Ninja'd!

One of the shuttles of the legendary USS Enterprise NCC-1071-D. Hint hint. ;)

I had an e-mail from Eaglemoss with a code giving me £20 off the Shuttle2 set, so I was gonna get them. But took me a couple of days to get round to it and by the time I looked yesterday I saw it had expired, d'oh.

£55 I'd take, £75 full price is a bit too rich for my blood.

20 pounds off?? That's roughly $25 USD!

Crap! I never got a code and pre-ordered mine for the full price a week after they were announced!

Me sad now. :(

Share the pain. The 20-discount had expired when I ordered, too. Only scrounged a 5% one from a website. On the plus side, it's basically 5 models because of the 1071-mishap. (Thanks for pointing that out, @Kaidonni!)

There was a US code, never got it in my email though. I think I might have seen it on another website. I preordered mine around the same time and it's shows my total as $59.50.

Part of me is ready to cave in and get the 1701 Refit model...I love the Constitution Refit, and I already have the NX-01, TOS, A, C, D and e (and I'm hoping to get the B at some point...provided they don't send me the magazine packaged with another ship that is not the Enterprise B again) so to not have the 1701 Refit seems wrong. But, part of me was wondering if I could at all get away with painting the model at all to improve it (despite the fact that I am no hobbyist modeller...I don't do modelling)? Any advice or tips? Failing that, I could just get the model and leave it as is...but I want a decent model of the 1701 Refit somehow, and there just seems to be nothing out there for anyone who is not a modeller (even the Polar Lights one requires some painting) or who doesn't want to fork out lots of money on Ebay for replicas/toys that aren't made anymore (and who doesn't want to buy the poor re-release Diamond Select Wrath of Khan Enterprise from 2013).

That would be amazing! I'd love to get some ships from other sci-fi franchises such as Alien, Babylon 5, Starship Troopers, etc.

Also, here are the first video reviews of the 11 inch TOS Enterprise:

I just hope they do justice to the refit.

As an FYI for those collecting the destination plaques, the E-A plaque has been switched in the Eaglemoss store from a "special edition" to a "store exclusive", meaning if you're expecting it as a part of your subscription (like I was) it now needs to be purchased separately. I kind of prefer this, actually, as then I know I won't have to wait 2 - 3 months to get it now.

I just got the Enterprise-J yesterday. Normally, I have all the Enterprises on the top shelf, but that seems like a terrible accident waiting to happen, so I put that one down a bit lower. Looks really nice. I never knew that there was no "J" on the ship itself.

My collection (I've got about forty, maybe a bit less) is coming close to outgrowing the small shelf I keep them on so I'm looking into other options. I saw a promising bookshelf at Ikea that's fairly cheap, but it's a bit long to take on the bus and I'm not paying a delivery charge that's as much as the item or more, so I'll have to find someone I can get to drive it home for me.

Yeah, funnily enough, apart from the specials, those are the only two Enterprises I don't have either. I wouldn't mind the refit at some point, but since I have the "A", I don't really feel like I'm missing out. The "B" is the one I really want.

I found the B (and E for that matter) suffering from the small size. I'd say, get your B when it's cheap, and hold out for the A (and a proper B) when their Jumbo versions come out. The detail level will outclass everything short of QMx Artisan, without having to paint it.

I didn't have a problem with the "E". I really like it. The size limits imposed by the box means that ships that are much longer than they are wide are invariably going to be in a smaller scale. (As opposed to wider ships like the "C" and "D"). Still we're not talking Micro Machine or even Johnny Lightning small here.

If I have any grievance with long ships it's the fact that they often stick out too much at the back because the stand clips on towards the front of the ship, but the spot where the stand plugs into the base is right at the center, rather than more to the front also. It causes ships to take up more room and can be cumbersome if a ship is in a back row. I've noticed this on the Excelsior, the Xindi-Reptilian ship, and I assume it's the case with the "B" as well.

Notice how the plug-in spot on the base for the Romulan drone is more towards the front? That's what I'd like to see for longer ships.

I wonder just how large models could be made.

I found this metal folding machine of interest:

That is in the UK...maybe Eaglemoss could pay them a visit.

This man here is trying to come up with a a program that will allow any shape to be made with one sheet of paper:

This may lend itself to origami-

Perhaps more do-able. 3D printers use ink jet technology.

What I want to se would be models where the meniscus of a fluid is laid down and solidified--all in one go--so there isn't this rough pxelated surface that has to be sanded.

Has there been any chatter from Eaglemoss if we might see the TOS Planet Killer? If so do you have a link? Thanks.

Many models from this line interest me, but I don't have room for a major new toy colelction. So far I've just acquired a couple of favourites - Enterprise B and Intrepid (the one from Enterprise). Might get Franklin whenever that comes out.

What an awesome time to be a fan of Star Trek's starships! As a kid I never would have thought I'd be able to one day hold models of some of these ships in my hands. And at that high quality. I know, we are paying for these models, but still I think Eaglemoss deserves our thanks for putting these out. I'm so glad I started collecting these.

Looking forward to the Deadalus, one of my all-time favorite ships from Trek. Is it confirmed that it will be issue #100?
