STAR TREK: Shuffle the Deck
FINAL ACTS

Act 4

The Borg fleet blasted the Vaadwaurian ship into smithereens. And then, as Captain Everett and the others stood in shock as the massive Borg fleet displayed on the screen, a figure shimmered into view. It was Laas, but with Borg implants.

“Founder,” Captain Everett asked, “or Borg?” He asked.

“Founder,” Laas replied to Everett. “I have absorbed the Queen into the Great-link. She is now apart of me, and I apart of her. Yet another solid had betrayed me, and died for it.”

“What now?” Everett asked. “Will you use the Borg to bring the structure you failed to bring us all during the Dominion War?”

“I do not control the entire Collective,” Laas said. “In fact, with the Queen gone, and her network of drones, I have lost control of nearly half of the drones that were assimilated after the Voyager’s failed attempt to destroy them. In fact, I am sorry to say, this new, leaderless faction of the Borg, have just jumped, via dimensional travel, into your Alpha-Quadrant.”

“Can you?” Everett asked. “Can you take us home?”

“I can,” Laas said.

At that moment, a strange energy flew threw the smashed opening in the bridge section.

“Isn’t that one of those Bajora orbs?” Science officer Kral asked as she and the bridge crew answered the summons, and came onto the bridge.

“It is indeed.” Everett said.

Suddenly there was a flash of light, and Odo appeared.

“Odo,” Laas said. “They told me you were dead.”

Odo nodded, “Just before the blast, I was rescued by the Emissary. Due to the limitations put on the Celestial Temple, he was unable, as was Q, to give me true form until now. Why did you change your mind?” Odo asked. “Why not use the Borg to bring the order that both the Collective, and you, desired.”

Laas thought for a moment. “I saw the error in that logic. Perhaps in my ridged view, I didn’t see that control, even total control, can be corrupted and then what do you have? I now see that having billions upon billions of beings, struggling to find their way, insures a check and balance to the powers of the universe. I still do not trust the solids,” Laas said, “But I do believe they have come to trust us, and mainly you, Odo. They have taken the first step, and now we must as well.”

“So, what will you do now?” Odo asked.

“I will be the King of the Borg,” Laas said. “I will use the power I have over them to hopefully bring in a new era where the Borg, these Borg, can be a force of good in the Galaxy.”

“Good Borg?” Thron’s deep voice asked. “Never.”

Laas looked to Thron, then back to Odo. “I see we have a long way to go to fight bigotry.”

“Can we stop the Borg that jumped to the Alpha-Quadrant?” Everett asked.

“Only one man can, Picard. Where is he? That is why I am here.” Odo said.

S’ovak looked up through the massive hole in the ceiling of the bridge, caused by the Sheppard as it left. In the far distance a planet could be seen.

“He has gone there,” S’ovak said as he held hands with Marcy Rose, “and with him, the last hope we have.”

“The second Wave?” Everett asked.

“Yes,” S’ovak said. “That must be Q/Obriath’s plan. That is where he has gone. Q/Obriath must be preparing to return as the second Wave.”

“How long until he canna sweep back this way as the Wave?” Scotty asked, from where he had entered the bridge just moments ago.

“Does it really matter?” Reg Barclay asked as he stood next to Scotty. “Unless we patch that whole, this ship isn’t going anywhere.”

With help from the Borg, and the Balboa Federation/Romulan engineering crew, the whole was patched with materials provided by Laas’s Borg collective. Nearly three hours passed, and the massive saucer section lifted off the ground, and joined the Borg fleet.

On the Balboa’s bridge, Captain Everett was heading for the command chair. Scotty sat in the XO’s chair, Shigeru giving him the courtesy to do so. S’ovak sat in the other chair.

“So,” Everett said to S’ovak, “how much of my Romulan friend remains inside of you.”

“All of me,” S’ovak said. “Whatever there was of Sheppard, I have taken him inside of my mind.”

“And where do I fit in?” Ensign Marks asked as she stood to his side.

“Well,” S’ovak said, “I always had a desire for women from Earth.”

Navigator Wy’clan turned to Everett. “What do we do now?” Wy’clan asked the Captain.

“Just wait, I guess.” Everett said. “The Founder said we needed to wait until Picard finished his task on the seventh planet. So, just keep us in orbit.”

“Don’t you think I should be giving orders?” A female voice said from near the turbolift.

They all looked over to the Turbo-lift and saw Captain Michelle Duell, Commander Bynak, Javah Halmes, Evan Cooper, and in Bynaks large arms, cuddled softly in a blanket was a little baby.

“Elaine?” Everett asked as he left the command seat and joined Captain Duell and the others near the Turbolift. “How can that be?” Everett asked. “We just watched her older self morph into the Sheppard.”

Captain Duell nodded, “I think there are some things we are just meant to accept, Mr. Everett.”

Bynak walked down to the lower level where a now very happy Marcy Rose stood. She accepted the Baby from Bynak.

Everett smiled, “I agree, Captain” He told Captain Duell. “The ship is yours Captain; I was only keeping the seat warm.”

“Quite right,” Captain Duell said with a smirk on her face, “But since you’ve wrecked by drive section, and my saucer too, you can have the Balboa. This ship is yours, Captain Everett West.”

“Captain, how is it you are here?” First officer Shigeru asked.

“Our task was competed,” Captain Duell said. “So we were returned to where we belong. What happens on that seventh planet is what really matters now.”

“Where is President Spock?” Scotty asked, realizing the entire time that the sixth member of the team was not present.

Captain Duell, knowing of Scotty’s relationship with Spock, walked over to him.

“Mr. Spock’s travels,” Duell said, “have him on a new path on the Crossing world. I am not sure the adventure will ever truly end for someone such as President Spock.”

“So, he won’t become back?” Scotty asked

“Only time will tell,” she said to him.

“And he better get back here soon,” Evan Cooper said, “I let him have my leather pouch, incase he needed it, for good luck. But I didn’t give it to him to keep forever.”

“Oh, shut up.” Javah said. “As soon as we get back to DS9, and some how defeat the Borg, you’re under arrest.”

“What for?” Evan demanded.

“Morn filed a theft report, which included a photo image of it; that was his leather pouch!” Javah replied.

“You’ll never be able to prove that.”

The crew listened to the petty bickering. And they also waited. They could not return to defend the Alpha-Quadrant with out Picard. And, at that moment, Picard was on the seventh world, trying to save William T Riker, and trying to save them all

--
Meanwhile, across the galaxy, Thomas Riker had downloaded all of the logs from Starbase 001, which orbited Earth. Several ships were tracked, and logged, the day and hour the Klingon ship had attacked Earth. All the other ships had been accounted for, except for one medium sized transport ship. Ownership could not be verified, so Riker aimed the Applewhite, which was the ship he had called his pride and joy, into space and went after Moriarty. The holographic villain had a three week head start on Thomas Riker’s ship, but Riker knew he could find both Moriarty, and the ship he was using.

And with Warp speed finally returned, at least for now, Moriarty could have taken Jake’s wife anywhere. But that would not deter Riker, Jake, and Marax, the Benzite Federation officer who Janeway had, earlier in the day, signed off and loaned to Riker, for the time being.

Okay…that’s it. Just one last part left….be here..TOMORROW!!!

STAR TREK; Shuffle the Deck

The sleek vessel, Sheppard, flew into the atmosphere of the seventh planet of the star system in the Gamma-Quadrant. As Picard and Tiberius sat inside their enclosed seats, which were powered by the strange cosmic-drive, Picard realized that by creating the Sheppard they had created a monster. It now existed as planets, as ships, as omnipotent beings, with abilities to shuttle beings between realities. It had to be, eventually, destroyed.

The ship flew down into the atmosphere of the planet it would, in one reality, evolve into, and as it did, the energy levels the cosmic-drive was putting out, seem to require more effort. A change was coming over the Sheppard. And, then it happened; the ship morphed shape. The sleek interiors of the ship morphed into the shape of rocks, and large boulders. And then Picard, and Tiberius, the son of Sybok and Captain Duell, were sitting in a cave, propped up against the walls of the cave instead of the backs of their seats.

And then Picard saw three men standing, facing each other. One was Captain Riker, the other was Sybok. The third was Gawthar. Gawthar was the Vaadwaur commander. An earlier version of Gawthar had just been destroyed with his ship by the Borg fleet. This Gawthar had to be the one that would eventually have Q’s ability. Picard deduced that the Sheppard had brought them the point moments before Gawthar absorbed Riker’s Q essence and then overcame Q. Picard understood what would have to happen. He had to stop Gawthar from getting Q’s power from Riker. Perhaps Q was right, when Picard was phasing into three different times all those years ago. Picard had some innate ability to see beyond the confinement of the continuum. It was that ability which was fueling Picard onward.

“Wil,” Picard said to Riker, “don’t let him touch you.”

“Jean-Luc,” Riker said.

At that moment Gawthar came at Riker.

“Give me it,” Gawthar demanded. “Give me the ring!”

Riker got into a defensive posture. He then reached inside his pocket and took out the strange ring that had been suspended above the control device back on Septos-14, and which the strange girl (Elaine) used to activate the Conduit.

Gawthar produced two rings from his own shroud. “These rings,” Gawthar pleaded, “can finally bring an end to the Hotep universe. It would allow the other beings, such as the Essians, to move on to the realm beyond and to bring order there as well, as they did here.”

Suddenly the three rings began to radiate a strange glow, and heat, causing both Riker and Gawthar to drop them. But instead of falling to the ground, all three flew across the cave, in the same direction. And as they did, a strange device lit up on the far cave wall.

“It looks just like the strange device we found on Septos-14.” Riker said.

Gawthar ran towards the device.

“The rings are mine,” Gawthar said, as he neared the device. “I shall activate their power and this world, with its unique properties, will create a conduit to the other side of what is beyond Hotep.”

Sybok shook his head, and looked to Picard.

“I believe he is about to be disappointed,” Sybok said with a smile. “I was once searching for the solution of life, and I failed.”

“Do we stop him?” Tiberius asked.

“No,” a voice said from the dark of the cave. “We do not.”

It was Spock. How he had gotten there, Picard did not know, nor did he want to know. But somehow, it all was logical.

“President Spock,” Picard said, “it is good to see you are well.”

Spock nodded to Picard, and then walked over to Sybok.

“Sybok,” Spock said, “Maram defeated you on Hotep. Surely you can see that the reign of terror you brought to that world was wrong.”

The ground started to shake. They all looked to Gawthar who had taken all three rings and placed them in an area directing above the controlling apparatus. The rings floated, as if held by string, above the device. Gawthar reached for a strange looking lever, and pulled on it. Instantly he was incinerated.

“You knew that would happen to him?” Picard asked.

“So did he,” Spock replied, “Yet the truth is always suspect when one is trying to attain Godhood.”

“And I should know,” Sybok added. “And yes, brother, I did indeed become corrupted with the lust of power. It was destined to happen, and I could not fight the hands of fate.”

“How is you are here, Mister President?” Picard asked.

“I have been here ever since the night I died on Hotep.” Spock said. He then turned to Tiberius.

“I was a child,” Tiberius said, “And my name, on Hotep, was Rithen. I was in my fifth cycle the night you died.”

“Yes,” Spock said to Tiberius, “I told you that you were my son that night I was very ill. The blindess that I, Robern, was afflicted of came from a virus that eventually overcame me. Do you recall the last words I told you?”

Tiberius nodded. “You reached out with your hand, placed it on the side of my face, and you told me to remember, and then you passed away.”

Spock walked over and placed his hand on the side of Tiberius’s side. “And now I have taken back my Katra.”

“You are not my father;” Tiberius said, “he is.” He pointed to Sybok.

“I found out that truth as well, on that night.” Spock said. “It would seem as if women, in all realities, are hard to fathom. Your mother kept the secret instead of making you live a life possibly in shame.” Spock said.

“What now?” Picard asked.

Spock looked to Sybok and Tiberius. “The three rings do indeed come from what is beyond Hotep, just as Hotep legend says they do. Two of them had been found by Obriath. On the night of your fall on Hotep, Sybok, he sent most of your guard to the valley in which they had been hidden. He knew that your death on Hotep would open the gateway between Hotep, and the reality from which all Hotepians came from, this one. And it was in this reality the third key had been hidden since the dawn of time.”

“How did the third ring get into our reality, and into Hurq control?” Riker asked Spock.

“That part I have not figured out,” Spock admitted with a slight tone of disappointment in his voice.

“And so,” Picard concluded, “Obriath came to this world, in this reality, in the form he possessed here, that of Gawthar, and waited in orbit for the ring to be delivered. He was well aware of the unique properties of this world, and knew that third ring would eventually arrive and it did.”

“We can’t let those rings stay,” Sybok said. “Their existence will inspire others to search out the ultimate knowledge; what waits beyond death, just as I had done once upon a time.”

“How do we get rid of them?” Riker asked.

“The three of us, Tiberius, Sybok and myself, must each take one of the rings,” Spock said, and place it over the omnipotent lever. And then you,” Spock said to Riker, “will give us your power and it will create a conduit to the beyond.”

“The power of the Conduit would destroy this world, instantly.” Riker concluded.

“Which means,” Sybok said to Riker, “the only one who can leave is Picard.”

“Which means,” Riker realized, “the rest of us are going to get front row seats to the greatest ride in the universe.”

“Very illogical way to phrase it,” Spock said, “Yet, it will suffice.”

“Do you want this?” Picard asked Tiberius.

“I do,” Tiberius said. “Elaine has her family, and I,” he said as he looked to Sybok and Spock, “have mine. It may dysfunctional, but it is family.”

--
At that moment, near the planet Picard and the others were on, four stars appeared. Three were yellow, one was blue.

“What’s going on?” Bynak asked as he, and all he others on the bridge, saw the stars emerge from the blackness of space.

Suddenly, the saucer began shudder from the waves of energy that the stars were putting off.

“The Essians have arrived,” S’ovak said.

--

Picard looked to Riker.

“Wil,” Picard said, “there must be another way. You don’t have to do this.”

Riker smiled. “This is my big chance to save the universe,” Riker said, “Maybe I can finally over take James Kirk in the hall of legends in my mind. And for all we know, I might come out of this jus fine. And,” Riker added with a softer voice, “we don’t have many other options.”

Final goodbyes were said. Picard walked back to the part of the cave that he and Tiberius had first emerged. Some how, Picard knew that this part of the cave would be his way out.

The last thing Picard saw was Sybok, Spock and Tiberius each taking a ring. Then they each held up their hands and gave the Vulcan salute to each other. And then the clasped hands, and slid all three rings over the lever, and then Spock looked back to Picard. Riker put his hand on theirs.

“Live Long and Prosper!” Spock said, with a smile.

And then they pulled the lever!!!!!!

The Conduit was activated, and just as it was, the four stars that had emerged from deep space, morphed into four beams of energy and as Spock, Tiberius, Sybok and Riker entered what was beyond the realm of Hotep, the four beams of light followed them…and into oblivion they went….And as the Borg fleet, with the saucer section in two via tractor beam, headed away from the planet as fast as possible, the planet exploded...

A beam of energy emerged from the blast, and at a speed only a God could know, the beam intercepted the Gawthar/Q Wave just as it entered the galaxy, destroying it once and for all...
