Star Trek: Resoundtracked

Scott Kellogg

Commander
Red Shirt
This will probably get me in trouble. ;)

As some of you may know, the cable station: MeTV is rerunning Star Trek TOS on Saturday nights.
But, 6 days a week, they show the old Looney Tunes cartoons. So, this started a rather unusual dinner time conversation with my wife....

You see, Star Trek's musical soundtracks are absolutely exceptional. But... So are Looney Tunes.
And my wife and I were imagining what would happen if you redid Trek's soundtracks with Carl W. Stalling's soundtracks...

For all the foxy babes appearing on screen all out to seduce the Captain, you'd have to use "You must have been a beautiful baby"
or "Frankie & Johnny"

or "You great big beautiful doll"

And for things like enemy space ships or giant amoebas we have the storm music from Die Fliegander Hollander:

When Kirk has to sneak around on the decks of a Romulan Battlecruiser...

And for when Kirk has to fight his first officer to the death, or sword fight a bunch of crafty Klingons:

Yeah, we have some unusual dinnertime conversations....

I redubbed Spock's flamenco dancing IN PLATO'S STEPCHILDREN with Dick Dale's Misirlou.

Also placed Shatner's Lucy in the Sky rendition into THE IMMUNITY SYNDROME where everyone on the bridge cups their ears.

Even made up a ''Space 1999'' season one style opening credits for past-paced bits from PLATO and DAY OF THE DOVE, among others.

And followed up the STAR TREK V opening title with six separate screams from Sulu, Spock, Scotty, Chekov, McCoy and Uhura from intense TOS epsiodes, then concluded with a smiling Shatner.

These are all only on a moth-eaten VHS at this time.

PS There was also an audio mix involving the drunken Klingon from TRIBBLES insulting Kirk. But his worst comments were replaced by Kevin Kline's verbal attack on John Cleese in A FISH CALLED WANDA.....and Judd Nelson's father-imitation in BREAKFAST CLUB.

The worst bits were repeated by Scotty to Kirk. That audio is sadly lost.
Ha! Sounds amazing! I am struggling to remember a time Scotty screams?!

I can see Chaplin in a Borg ship with powerhouse playing-dodging drones.

Vangelis and Tangerine Dream for TMP

When he's out of booze, which never happens because even though he has only four more hours worth of hooch left and the replicators are offline and it will take at least six hours to fix them, he puts his legendary pluck and ingenuity to work and gets the job done in just three hours, which is a good thing because in the adversity of the moment, he overestimated how long his dwindling supply would last. And once again, the shields will fail after the first hit the next time they're needed and nobody will wonder why.

It's more of a wail, really, but I used I, MUDD, act four. The start of his ''I canna go on'' spiel.

I believe my precise order was Uhura in RETURN TO TOMORROW, Chekov in anything----actually THOLIAN WEB, then McCoy in CITY ON THE EDGE teaser, then Scotty, Sulu in THE NAKED TIME, Spock in TMP......and a satisfied Shatner from the last shot in MENAGERIE. (All done with 1990s camcorder).

Exactly the screams I would have used, except maybe Spock from The Devil in the Dark. And yeah, Scotty - as the toughest Enterprise crew member on an equal footing with Kirk - wasn't a big screamer. BTW, that scream from Takei in The Naked Time was outstanding acting.
