In real life, the Defiant was introduced because Star Trek = space ship.
Exactly so.
In real life, the Defiant was introduced because Star Trek = space ship.
In universe, yes...the Defiant was stationed at DS9 because of the Dominion.

Yet even after that introduction, the show continued to center on the space station, and not the ship.In real life, the Defiant was introduced because Star Trek = space ship.

So... you're saying Star Trek couldn't compete?
Obvious it could or it would have disappeared sooner. Part of the decline in audience was the availability of alternatives, but part of it was the direction of the show, for years I never watch the last few seasons because the Dominion War held no interest for me. I've only recently seen the entire run.So... you're saying Star Trek couldn't compete?
True, but it would be silly to suggest the ratings dropped because "they don't go anywhere." Otherwise, VOY would have been a ratings hit.Yet even after that introduction, the show continued to center on the space station, and not the ship.In real life, the Defiant was introduced because Star Trek = space ship.

I have no pony in this race, but come on, that is a specious argument. You can't see things in such black and white that you can actually be that much of a devils advocate?
it's not a factual observation. It's a blanket statement for the purposes of playing devils advocate. It in no way shape or form encourages intelligent debate.
There were the Soong androids, the exocomp robots, and Emergency Medical Holograms.Robots, Androids, genetic engineering, cyborgs, etc. is good. There is a serious dearth of "artificial" life forms in Federation society. Star Wars gets it right. I think they will be ubiquitous.
