Star Trek Prodigy possible new ship (spoiler)

I would assume the real reason they're getting a new ship (the Voyager-A?) instead of keeping the Dauntless is that the writers want a smaller, less-powerful ship so that the characters can be in greater peril when the S2 plot takes off.

The Dauntless isn't that big of a ship. It only has about 7 decks - in Prodigy, the Dauntless' MSD indicates 7 or possibly 8 decks (same or just a tad larger than the Arturis fake Dauntless).
It only appeared larger in Prodigy because most of the time we've seen it, we've only seen up close shots and those of people in relation to the vessel's size - which most of the time would make ANY vessel appear 'huge'.

Also, smaller doesn't automatically mean 'less powerful'. SF is (supposed to be) about efficiency. So they can easily make a seemingly small starship very much on par (or mostly comparable) with capital ships (power wise).

But, given that USS VOY had 15 Decks, I would surmise the VOY-A would be a similarly sized vessel.

It would all depend on the class of ship that the Voyager A is. There is a progressive size increase between the Constitution, Ambassador, Galaxy and Sovereign classes (even all the way up to the whopping J!), but in the 24th century with other ships which are not flagships I do not think that there is any size pattern, incremental upscaling… or even if it actually matters. The Voyager A could be smaller, the same size, or larger than the 74656… who knows what the Intrepid class replacement is going to end up being, it could be as dramatically different as the Titan A is from the original Titan for all that we know. The Voyager A could be a Protostar class ship or even an ‘Intrepid II’ going from the new Terry Matalas/Doug Drexler ship class naming system.

I'd surmise the VOY-A will have a similar design philosophy to the Intrepid class starship... especially considering that Prodigy seems to still use progressive evolution of previous designs... sans possibly retractable nacelles.

I wonder what kind of technology the ship will use though.

I would imagine some kind of evolution in bio neural gel pack technology? Assuming that there has been more research at Daystrom (Okinawa, not Section 31!) in regards to Soong based Androids, I could envisage that gel packs have now been replaced by bio neural nets/networks with ‘golem’ synthetic components? Starship tech in the 25th century may be totally based on bio neural networks, operating in a way that is modeled after the human brain. Starfleet ships may run an artificial intelligence that is designed to mimic the functions and processes of the human nervous system and thought processes such as was the case with Zora on Discovery, including the way that neurons are connected and communicate with each other but on a technological level. Federation bio neural networks might use computer models and algorithms to simulate the way that the brain works rather than being organic in construction. Though gel packs such as those on Voyager may allow for more efficient ‘neural processing’ over standard manufactured ‘tech’.

Data could now be the main processor/data controller/firewall on such a network, similar as to how he was running the security systems on Daystrom

Actually, I have just got my timelines confused. My Voyager A tech as described above could not exist until after Picard season 3, Prodigy is set in the 2380’s.

Voyager A can be Seven of Nine’s new ship instead if she cannot have the Enterprise, Voyager A can use this tech then. :D

In episode 2 when Raffi is trying to find the Red Lady, one of the images that pops up showed a Voyager-B, Pathfinder Class from Star Trek Online

I still don't like the fact that it seems VOY-A will have a relatively short life expectancy.
What are Trek producers thinking?
For a ship like VOY to reach J in the late 31st century, each iteration would have to be in service about 72 odd years... though to be fair if we assume SF only used 100 year old ships since the Burn happened, then 63 odd years per starship (and original VOY was put into a museum after its 7 short years of service due to its historic journey)... the A apparently gets either retired or destroyed before the year 2400.

That means that the 9th ship from VOY-A would end up being J (if Disco 31st century still occurs in the prime timeline)... which is about 668 odd years before the Burn happens.

So that means, that including VOY-B, each Voyager starship would need to be in service about 74.2 years before the Burn happens.

Doable? Yes (and much more reasonable of an expectation of a vessel's lifespan when contrasted to other ships that reached the M mark (the USS Nog for example must have been in service for markedly less time per ship than Voyagers).

Perhaps the Voyager A gets blown up in Prodigy season 2 then?

Maybe not. The VOY-B could be a relatively new starship and the A may have been in action until 2400.

There's also the possibility that Prodigy, Picard, and Discovery do not take place in the same continuity with each other. Therefore it wouldn't matter that there's a Voyager-B in the year 2401, or amounts of time before you get to the Voyager-J in the 32nd century.

The thing is they are all supposed to be the prime timeline, so that particular hypothesis probably won't stick.

There are always possibilities, but the possibility that Prodigy, Discovery, and Picard do not take place in the same continuity is extremely improbable.

But most ST shows even don't get their own continuity 100% right. A very small detail like Voyager-B, a barely visible trinket in Picard S3, could easily be ignored if another showrunner has different plans.

It's not like SNW let continuity with TOS stop its version of the Gorn, which is already a far more meaningful change.

Another example: the Klingons in Picard, LD and PRO on the one hand, look nothing like the Klingons in Discovery on the other hand. Same continuity, but ignored whenever it's not convenient.

I dunno. I see the crew of the Discovery wearing Disco t-shirts, and the crew of the Cerritos wearing Ritos t-shirts, but I don't see the crews of the TOS Enterprise, TNG Enterprise, Deep Space Nine/Defiant, Voyager, NX-01, Stargazer, Dauntless or Titan wearing t-shirts. Clearly this is proof that DSC and LDS take place in their own universe.
