Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

I've mostly seen horror at the idea, given the reputation that Zazlav has right now. I think from a fan perspective that acquisition by Skydance (who would retire Paramount+ and just turn the studio into a content farm ala Sony) is much, much better.

That said, I don't think Trek being owned by WarnerDiscovery is the end of the world. Say what you want about them, but they don't let their tentpole IP franchises die.
It's hardly the end of the world, for sure. I just see them pulling the reigns in tighter, which was already happening. So, they will go in to financial restrictive measures to save money, which is what they are already doing.

That's about the extent I see happening with Trek. Down to one or two shows, if that, and focus on releasing physical media to augment sales from previously streamed shows.

Like, when it was announced that WB was putting out feelers to buy Paramount, people should've reacted with horror at the prospect of the industry getting even more monopolistic and more jobs being lost and consumer choice being restricted even more so David Zaslav could buy more yachts, but instead they were just going "Oh boy now we can have Superman meet Captain Kirk!"

The thread in GTD about this was mostly people reacting with horror. I think one poster might have made a comment similar to what you said here, but from the tone, it seemed they were joking anyway.

Okay, that's good to hear. I was going more by what I saw on Twitter, though that's probably not a very representative sample anymore.

Another interview with Waltke (audio is lowish quality though): https://x.com/GoodAaron/status/1743066067264798732?s=20

Around 31:15, Waltke is asked if all the characters of season 1 will be back, and he answers "yes". Having said that, he points out the released S2 clip with the Doctor to illustrate that everybody will be back, but this clip obviously leaves out Gwyn and Ascencia and the Diviner (who all 3 will be back, I don't doubt) and also Noum and Tysess. Not sure Waltke was including the last two in his answer. The Hageman's earlier mentioned that the Dauntless will not be back in S2, because it was meant to a visually different "antagonist" ship. Maybe Tysess and Noum went with Janeway to Voyager-A, maybe not.

I only skimmed the later parts after that, which were questions from listeners calling in, for the most part.

Waste of money.
Most Hollywood (and similar) productions are a waste of money, the entertainment industry is a hyper inflated conglomeration of creatives making money out of nothing. I blame Shakespeare, though I have never read his plays in the original Klingon. Context lost in translation?
Well the Academy show takes place in the 32nd Century.
32nd century is what got Disco cancelled, why would they set a series there? This would be like setting a Titanic sequel on the *actual* Titanic which actually sank, rather than an upgraded model with a new registry, or a spaceship version such as in Doctor Who Voyage of the Damned? :ack::vulcan:

Obviously not, considering that it will have gotten three seasons in that century after only two in the 23rd. In the current streaming era, a 3-season run is impressive, and a 5-season run is exceptional.

Also, it was not "cancelled" at all. That word refers to an unplanned and unexpected ending, like what happened with Prodigy. In the case of Discovery, the decision was made in advance that the upcoming season 5 would be the final season, and it has been made with that knowledge in mind. That's not cancellation, it's just an ending.
