Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

I wonder if when the show comes back this summer if they are going 10 straight weeks or breaking them up in 5's again. I listened to an interview with one of the writers of the episode Kobyashi today and he said that they plan Prodigy in Arcs of 10 and that they have been given the green light to 40 episodes. Also, the final two episodes of this segment is a two part episode so it will be interesting to see how they leave it for a couple months.

There is an alternative: It starts with a 'T'... and ends with 'ENT'.... t***ent. ! :D

Honestly, I've been using ad block for as long as I can remember, I can't stand ads... and if I DO catch one, I ignore it.
Streaming shows shouldn't have ads... we're already paying for access to the Internet and a whole bunch of other things, even though it was initially developed by the people (government/taxpayer funded).

Youtube ads are the worst. If I could afford any of this crap they're trying to sell me, I'd have Youtube Red to avoid the ads. SF Debris may have them beat now though. I'd been using his Youtube channel for so long that when I used his site to watch classic Who reviews of episodes I'd watched for the first time in my classic Who watch, I was shocked by the ad breaks every couple minutes.

Agreed. Its annoying to be interrupted abruptly while watching something.

Sounds similar to "Shattered(VOY)."

I actually liked Shattered episode of VOY.
If this 8th episode of Prodigy will be similar, it will be interesting to see how they approach it.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same anomaly that fractured VOY and then the Protostar encountered now (though, given the vastness of space, it may seem unlikely - unless the anomaly changed positions since VOY encountered it).

The pocket books actually tied that shattered anomaly to the Krenim and the Full Circle fleet in the DQ discovered what happened to VOY in 'The year of hell'.

So Murf. Any theories? It's supposed to be an obscure reference, but I got nothing. I was wondering if it might be one of the Hundred changelings, but that seems like too big of a reference.

In "Aquiel" there was some kind of gelatinous monster that shape-shifted into a dog. Murf doesn't seem to be a predator, though.

I’m excited to find out, but I’m at a loss as well. Before I’d read that it’s a very, very obscure reference, I’d guessed one of the changelings as well, but even setting that clue aside, as we’ve seen more and more of Murf, ‪‪I don’t think that would make a lot of sense anyway.

Given the introduction of Brikars and Chimerium, it could be something from the litverse, or the comics.

Denebian slime devil?
That’s been my guess since the beginning. IIRC, the producers have said that we’ve “heard” of Murf’s species before.
Maybe? Though we got an onscreen graphic of one in DS9, I believe, and Murf looks nothing like that.
The picture in DS9 was taken from the apocryphal Starfleet Medical Manual and may only show one “stage” of the DSD’s development. Larval stage maybe? And it’s not like they’ve never retconned what’s come before with something new. Klingons are the biggest offenders in this regard, literally changing their appearance (bigly) once every decade.

Besides, this show has already redesigned Brikar from how they were previously depicted in the novels, they're not going to feel the need to stay faithful to a computer graphic from one of the other shows.
