Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

An interview with the showrunners which dropped today made it clear the show takes place in the Delta Quadrant. So other than the Talaxian, they're all probably races we've never seen.

They said in the same panel that something in the show ties back to TOS.

I recall a character list which included a Denobulan, a Ferengi, a Tellarite, possibly a human, and some others. Since the six younger main characters that were shown are obviously not those people, but possibly Delta Quadrant natives, then those preliminary descriptions might have been of the Prodigy's original crew.

Possibly. I think we're dealing with at least two Starfleet ships here. The abandoned ship with its hologram that the kids take over (probably being chased by some Delta Quadrant baddies), and another ship of Starfleet explorers trying to retrieve this ship that had been abandoned (through some emergency situation) and then stolen.

It's possible that the Denobulan and others on the character list are the original crew trying to get their ship back. Maybe even there isn't a second Starfleet ship, and they have to use a Delta Quadrant friendly to track them down.

It seems a bit odd that a Janeway holo would be left in the Delta quadrant after Voyager returned home. It makes me wonder if the kids discover the Delta Flyer or something.

All adults. Doesn't sound like any of the main characters, if they are characters at all.

Yes, I mentioned earlier speculation that they might be part of the original crew of the ship the kids take over, if the info is legit. Because there's no reason for them to be in the Delta Quadrant otherwise.

Apparently one of the characters has a connection with the original series. So let the guessing begin!

When I initially saw the video I thought he was talking about the original series that Janeway was on, i.e. Voyager, so the connection was the Talaxian kid. But upon a rewatch I am not sure, it could be TOS.

If I´m going to be honest, I always resisted the hologram theory, but now it was confirmed, it isn´t such a big deal. However, I´m super curious how will the show deal with the characters who presumbly know nothing about Alpha quadrant....

And it's a hair up version of Janeway from the first 3 seasons..

Admiral Janeway in Nemesis had her hair up, but she was also in the post-FC uniform.

Did they confirm it was a Talaxian?

No doubt that's what holo-Janeway is for, to fill them in on what Starfleet is all about and give them an ideal to aspire to. Which is a good idea for a show meant to introduce the Trek universe to new, young viewers.

I´m still dying to know the show better...

I'm mildly disappointed that Janeway is a hologram rather than really Janeway, but it's not a big deal. I'm more excited about the Delta Quadrant 2383 setting. That leaves open the possibility of seeing DQ species from Voyager and maybe some ramifications of Voyager's trip. Of course, I don't expect it to be heavy on continuity, given that its primary demographic wasn't born when Voyager was on the air.

Maybe the character that looks like a cross between a Talaxian and a Tellarite is actually a cross between a Talaxian and a Tellarite.
