Why is General Grievous in this?
It was okay but It felt more generic sci fi than Star Trek to me. When the baddie mentioned the Federation I thought, the Trade Federation? :)
It’ll probably get more Trek like down the line.

I'm not sure how to grade this episode. I'm 37 years old and it's a Star Trek series. The 37 year old in me probably would give this episode a 4. I think maybe the 7 year old me would give this episode a 7 or an 8. I think when the poll opens I'm going to give it a 6
I'm 37 also and I literally just gave this a 10 on the poll. I have no idea why this is supposedly "for kids" when it outright deals with torture and slavery. That being said, I find it very enjoyable and certainly better than the other animated Trek right now, Lower Decks, which I quit in disgust in episode 5.

I think it's the dialog and the need to define things immediately after saying them (Like the non-caporeal life thing) that makes it a Kids show. You are right it did deal with darker themes, but a lot of the kids shows I watched in the 90s also dealt with those themes. I don't know what kids shows deal with now but I wouldn't think it would be much different.

Not bad. Pacing felt weird.

Since the Diviner has been looking for it for "all these years" I am guessing that Protostar was lost some time ago, maybe 2370 or 2371. That would explain its kind of low registration number for a prototype (as in, not post Luna-class), and maybe even "Janeway's" look, if she gave her likeness just before she took command of Voyager.

Yeah, I am definitely not the target audience. Dialogue was, certainly geared much, much younger. Story at first glance is based on fairly simple themes (and it should be), visually and musically fairly solid (again also something not surprising). Well be curious if this attracts any real kids to watch....

Kids shows can deal with tough subjects but usually does it with very broad strokes and and in very basic methods.

Pretty sure the Protostar would've been lost after the Voyager mission, simply because I'm sure holo-Janeway is going to be programmed with all sorts of Delta Quadrant info that the real Janeway only had by the end of Voyager's run.

Well, that may be the case. I am not going to assume a continuity error at this point though. I guess the Diviner's species may have very short years, but isn't this show supposed to take place in 2383? Why would Starfleet program a hologram that is out-of-date in appearance? Janeway is an admiral by 2379, so what would be the reason for giving her avatar a lower rank? I'm probably overthinking it.

Speaking of overthinking, Medusans and Tellarites are Federation-local species. Could this prison colony be near the Delta/Beta border? (I'd say Brikar too, but we really don't know anything about 'canonical' Brikars.) And if so, what's a Kazon doing so far from their space? Dal is aware of Tellarite behavior, so general knowledge of that race may be known locally.

And I am guessing Dal is a Talaxian.

I have not been excited at all about this but.............I enjoyed it. Music and visuals are beautiful. The story, while basic ad predictable for a 1st episode was ok. I am excited to see where it goes. My wife was a huge fan of the Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia which was done by the same animation team.......so I will see what she thinks tonight. Really think the music was the top thing for me.

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought. It definitely has that Clone Wars feel which I feel that Star Trek should have done YEARS ago, and I can definitely tell its geared towards kids, but I got a feeling the adult audience will be the dominant force in viewing numbers. I'm definitely going to watch it through and see where it goes. Its so visually gorgeous!

I’m thinking this takes place near the Delta/Beta border too.

And wasn’t there a Lurian too?
