Star Trek Presentation

I'm doing a presentation for school, on how star trek affected the world.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can put in it?

It featured the first inter-racial kiss, which was quite a bold thing to do in its day...

It was also brave in the fact that the main cast consisted of a resident Vulcan, a black woman, a Japanese helmsman and even a Russian on the bridge. We probably don't think much of it now, but back then it wasn't an everyday thing to show such racial harmony.

The series is responsible for NASA's first shuttle being called Enterprise. No mean feat for a cancelled TV show :p

That's just a couple of things off the top of my head about TOS... there's four (five if you count the animated series) other series that probably brought their own little thing to the table. I imagine there'll be a few people on here who know of more profound changes and can go into greater detail about them.

Edit - there's also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_trek#Cultural_impact to take a look at for how Trek affected the world on the whole.

Repeated viewing of Star Trek causes a physiological change that has done a great deal to control population growth.

Try How William Shatner Changed the World, a DVD documentary, hosted by The Shat, discussing the influence Star Trek's had on our culture. It ranges from Motorolla, to NASA, to the I-Pod, to Quick-Time, to Windows, and beyond.

Pretty good for the most part...until he bashes modern Trek at the very end.

A VERY good reference on this kind of subject! I highly recommend it.
