Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Maybe this is why they recruit Moriarty? They need someone with the intellectual ability to outwit Data, or by default… Lore.

You know how they have an animation of the Enterprise doing a fly-by right before episodes of SNW, and now they have the Cerritos doing the same before episodes LD?

I'm looking forward to seeing them have an animation of the Enterprise-D doing a fly-by right before new episodes of PIC. It'll be a fun little thing.

La Sirena is not Starfleet ship. It is not normal that non-Starfleet ship makes Starfleet delta logo. It is non-sense from Patrick Stewart who refuses to wear Starfleet uniform.

Star Trek is all about Starfleet, it always was and it always will be. I hate this Star Warsi-isation of Star Trek. And I hate La Sirena. Studip cargo ship with cheap and stupid interior.

Says the guy who has Sisko in his avatar. How many episodes of DS9 were there where Starfleet wasn't the main focus? The main focus in several episodes was Bajor, the civilians on the station, the Cardassians, the Klingons in a few instances. Starfleet played second fiddle in a lot of episodes, sometimes even third fiddle.

As far as Star Wars-ification, how about we look at the average DS9 Mirror Universe episode? If Regent Worf isn't a Darth Vader stand-in, I don't know what is. If the ship battles in those episodes aren't pure Star Wars, I don't know what is. I'd say those episodes of DS9 are more Star Wars than almost any episode of PIC. What's also Star Wars is Sisko and The Prophets versus Dukat and The Pah'Wraiths. The Jedi and The Dark Side.

The most Star Wars-like episode of PIC that I can think of is "Penance", the second episode from the second season, where Picard and company have to escape the Confederation and save the Borg Queen from execution. Even that's a stretch.

Well she was a queen and not a princess but yeah felt similar now I think about it haha.

I think with two series out of five having premiered their Star Trek logo, it’s a little hard decide what the normalcy is with this new trend. Could be La Sirena. Could be the Titan-A. Let’s wait and see.

It is non-sense from Patrick Stewart who refuses to wear Starfleet uniform.

Hmm. Pretty sure, as had been stated elsewhere, Sir Patrick certainly has worn several varieties of Starfleet uniforms in Picard.

Thank you for your opinion.

We've seen exactly two versions of the "starship makes the delta logo in space" intro and you can already declare what is normal.
It is non-sense from Patrick Stewart who refuses to wear Starfleet uniform.
You realize there was a scene in season 1 where Stewart insisted on wearing a Starfleet uniform even though no one else thought it would be necessary?

Not sure exactly which scene it is, but I suspect it was the picture of Picard holding baby Thad.

Star Trek is bigger than Starfleet. If the franchise wants to survive long-term, it needs to keep expanding its scope.

I wonder if Kurtzman & Co. got spooked by the reaction to the Section 31 show - it's probably the least typical of the Trek ideas in production so far, and there's been very little positive response. If they're still going to take a risk on that one, then they'd most likely want to double-down on the "safe" notions just in case it bellyflops.

Kurtzman and Co had nothing to do with Picard Season 3 being what it is, that was all Terry.
Obviously I'm sure they approved it, but I doubt they told him 'make it more starfleet'.

Maybe. I'm totally cool with the idea of a Star Trek spy show--but it shouldn't be about Section 31. Section 31 should be the bad guys.

I'm not sure how Starfleet PIC S3 is going to be (outside of Seven's new career choice and what's baked into a TNG reunion); from the trailer, it looks like there's some skullduggery and unsanctioned rescues in store. I'm thinking more in terms of overall projects - Section 31 was one of the earlier ones to be announced, the worst received, and still hasn't materialized, though it's apparently not been dropped.

Yeah, and I suspect that's where a lot of the backlash came from - folks might go for a more morally grey Trek show, but S31 are blackhats, no matter how they justify their actions. But say, a Starfleet Intelligence show with S31 as the overarching antagonists? That probably would have gone over better.

Annie Wersching is amazing... And we like The Rookie too.
What would have been neat but maybe corny was had they taken the police car but Nathan's character was there watching.. That would have been a sweet crossover

Yeah, that pesky Patrick Stewart who refused to wear Starfleet uniforms for PIC, he was so stubborn and refused to change his mind just to ruin the day for all those "REAK Trek fans who want REAL Star Trek"...

Oh...

To be fair Stewart was likely talking more about wearing a uniform all the time like he did on TNG. Not that he would avoid them for a scene or two if needed like a flashback or so. I think he was likely more open to that than say Tom Welling who refused forever to put on Superman's tights.
