Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Me too, 100%. And I have to admit, I will be a lot less interested in any Seven spin-off if most of the rest of the established cast from PIC has been effectively killed off.

*crosses fingers again, without much hope*

Same, especially after Pill's performance this season. But ngl, I'll be there with my popcorn if we get to keep Seven, Raffi, and Elnor for a spinoff.

Watched Nepenthe in my run up to binging Season 2. There's lot that sweet in this one. Saving a TNG reunion until E7 was a canny move and it feels earned coming later in the season. Genuine warmth palpable between Stewart, Sirtis and Frakes, but we know they do all keep in touch and love each other in the TNG family. Very nice.

Why do so many Starfleet officers retire into this kind of rustic lifestyle?

I dislike Rios when he thinks Raffi might be compromised. I thought he was much smarter than that. Jurati is all over the place. I'm seem to recall she injected something into herself that would neutralise the tracker.

Good though. Good to see Riker figuring everything out just like that and reminding us that to be Number One on the flagship you have to be pretty hot. It's great to see Troi too.

Not bad at all. I'll finish this over the next few days I guess.

I really hope it wasn't done to clear the way for the old class.

It's very possible that it was. Could also explain some of the issues with the season - not only do they need the plot about Q, Picard's past, Soong, but they also need to write out most of the season 1 cast in a way that would explain why Picard wouldn't go to them for help in season 3.

What's interesting is that post Season 1 the question was posted as to why this crew would stay together. Now, I don't have an issue but perhaps they are ready to let this crew go their separate ways.
I honestly don't mind them going their separate ways. I just want them all to be alive to do so. I find it depressing as hell that we are going into the finale with one cast member already killed off, another effectively killed off having been assimilated and merged with the Borg Queen, and another looking likely to be left in 2024 to face World War III so that from the point of view of his friends once they return to 2401 he too would be dead. Losing one of them in that way I could live with, but the profligacy of discarding so many of them in this way is what burns. It's a big galaxy, let them live and go their separate ways!

Ok.

That makes sense. I guess.

The worst part for me is that they’re making these characters unusable for future productions. It’s one thing to say they won’t be used in season 3 because they wanna do TNG season 8. But the fact they’re all dead or stuck in some alternate timeline that isn’t even their own means they can’t even be used in some post-Picard show. Just such a bizarre waste of potential.

I would be curious (maybe someone can ask Matalas) if they are just working really hard to make this season self-contained? Like there are no loose ends, no possibilities for expectations of them appearing in the next season. The final answer to these characters lives to cut back on speculation.

If so, it does remind me of episodic storytelling again.

I'm telling you, none of them are going to be dead.

If the timeline gets restored to the way it was at the start of episode 1, Elnor and non-Queen Jurati will be back, Rios will be in command.

Raffi and Seven are still in season 3. I hope they both have scenes with some of the other TNG crew.

I just really like it when casts from two different shows get to interact.

Like we're 2 seasons into Picard and I still can't believe we have Seven and Picard interacting in live action.

From one of the season 2/3 writers:

"This week marks the finale of S2 of #StarTrekPicard. Looking back, it was an absolute pleasure working with Akiva Goldsman to realize his vision. Looking forward, it’s the thrill of lifetime working beside
@TerryMatalas
and the original cast to craft our thrilling & emotional S3."

That quote is from Christopher Monfette just for reference.

This is why I'm a little more confident that Season 3 will be better than this season. Goldsman is a notoriously uneven writer. So if he was handling the second half of Season 2, it makes that explains why it was weaker and kind of all over the place. Matalas is a much better writer which is evidenced by the stronger opening trio of episodes, so if he was given full rein of S3, I expect at the least it will be more cohesive.

Geordi will have a picture of himself with Cochrane and an elderly Rios just before the Phoenix launch, hanging in his ready room aboard the Challenger.

He didn't write any of Season 2 other than co-writing the opening.

Wow, the Picard FB fanpage is being BOMBARDED by hater posts today…. Did they secretly conspire to collectively ‘spread the hate’ today………??

It comes in waves in general, yeah. I can almost set the clock to it - it happens mostly when one of their YouTube gods has published a new hate-filled video (they call it “reviews”… uh-huh). From what I’ve gathered from the new hate wave on Twitter this morning one of their hate gurus made a “funny” video where he imitated one of the “pompous speeches the show has” or something. That’s probably what’s fueling their hate at the moment.
