Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I am totally confused here.

Q did nothing until Picard blew up the Stargazer.

Q even comments on why Picard keeps saying he, (Q) did something.

FMPOV, all Q has done so is save Picard from his decision to die to take out the Queen.

Wha'd I miss?
I think we have to watch future episodes and find out. I find it very hard to believe that Picard needs to do a penance for something that happened in 2024, when he was not even born yet.

The Penance is Q forcing Picard to fix the timeline. He's not blaming Picard for the changes.

I don't think Picard blowing up the Stargazer in the here and now caused a timeline divergence several centuries earlier. I think Q saw Picard making the (wrong?) choice to self-destruct the Stargazer, and quickly whipped him and his new besties out of there quick-smart into a timeline that already had diverged several centuries earlier (or that Q himself caused to diverge several centuries earlier), as penance. He wants Picard to fix this timeline in order to learn a lesson that he will presumably take back to the original timeline with him, thereby saving the Stargazer and her crew.

Okay, fix the timeline he broke because, say that again, because he blew up the ship.

Add in Quennys temporal fits and we land on timey wimey. The past was broken because of Picards choice to blow it up.

The past was broken because of Picards choice to blow it up. Temporal effects.

Picard blowing up the ship didn't directly change the timeline, Q changed the timeline, probably because of how the crew of the Stargazer + Picard reacted to the Borg.

There's a scene in one of the preview trailers showing Q giving a small vial with something in it to Adam Soong and telling Adam he needs a favor.
Personally I've speculated that it contains some kind of Augment Virus that causes humanity to diverge into the ultimate alien bigotry we see in the new timeline.

Except if he hadn't shown up nothing would have happened. It was his interference that caused the problem in the first place. Which I'm assuming is the case here too, but I guess we'll see.
That was a directive from the continuum to see if he could solve the paradox

There's still no evidence of that

blew up the ship?
That has yet to be definitively determined.
My guess would be before.
It's pretty obvious to me that the Stargazer blowing up wouldn't change the past, so Q must have done something at, or just before the explosion to kick things off.

Either that or Q was monkeying around with Earth's past, and his tampering is what ultimately ends up causing Picard to misjudge the situation which ends with the ship exploding.
That might also explain why Q seems 'off'.

As far as fictional totalitarian regimes go, the Confederation comes across as a bit... tepid? Come on, where's the narcissistic dictator-for-life? No cult of personality? Boring.

The only time Q didn't cause a problem that he then helped solve was the Borg. They were on their way. If Q hadn't sent the Enterprise to then early, the Fed would have been easily assimilated. As it is, I do agree that the rest (Tapestry, All Good Things) seem to be Q causing problems that Picard has to fix, with Q nonsensically blaming the problems he caused on Picard.

Largely, though in All Good Things we're left with the impression that the whole continuum is putting humanity/the Federation on trial.

My theory:
Q saved Picard from blowing himself up, and thus Q(!!) broke the timeline (and that's why he's sick) - and he's sending Picard on a journey to fix the timeline as a quid pro quo.

So why does saving/blowing up Picard messes up the timeline? Because the Borg Queen is his mother ("look up Picard" - shoutout to superstar Rich Evans from redlettermedia who first proposed this idea), perhaps a variant sent back in time to the farm where she tells little Picard to look in the Stars for her (future/past version) while also fighting the Borg monster (herself) in the cellar. And Dr. Soong (the one from 2024) is therefore of course his father, and the whole thing is about "family" (Vin Diesel grunt)
