Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

But look at Picard season 2/3, look at Prodigy, look at Lower Decks.

Everybody's back in Starfleet, even those who are surprise.

Maybe even B'Ellana's back in Starfleet.

Have we had any hints about B’Elanna? I don’t recall seeing anything that mentioned or even alluded to her current status but I may have missed something (perhaps in Prodigy?).

I noticed that. He did the exact same "slip of the tongue" in the interview with Isa, Evan, and Santiago. So either he's really nervous and slipped up twice, or there's a lot more to that.
Yeah, Michelle Hurd's reaction to his comment makes me think he said something that he wasn't supposed to. Also, the shot of Rios in uniform shows him sitting at what looks like the navigator position on a starship bridge (you can see the edge of the viewscreen behind him).

Good spot! So maybe Rios is surprised to be back on La Sirena?

So Picard rejoins Starfleet, gets Rios and Raffi their jobs back and puts Elnor into Starfleet?

No surprise at the new ship name given the name of the series

Going back into SF is one thing. STAYING there is another matter entirely.

We don't know the circumstances surrounding these uniforms.

Sir Patrick has said that he doesn't want JLP going back into SF (he did it for seven years and four feature films).

He also confirmed that Elnor is a cadet, as the uniform in the Trek Argentina trailer seemed to suggest.

We've gone from Wesley Crusher having issues with the truth ("The First Duty") to Elnor (who cannot tell a lie).

He said that at the very beginning of this journey. That was four years and a pandemic ago. We're getting two seasons of "loner" Picard and his group of misfits. Maybe he sees a reason for them to be back in SF for the third (final) season. Be gracious enough to let the man change his mind if he has had second thoughts and it serves the story.

Wouldn't navigator be something of a demotion for a man who was first officer when he left Star Fleet and has since commanded his own vessel for 10 years?

I daresay we'll find out soon enough! Not long now!

I'm just curious what kind of mission the different characters will have while they are in California in the twenty first century and the Europa space mission that's been hinted at in the latest previews. Also Q trying to cause Picard problems too.Mr. Picard thanks for posting Patrick's new interview that was really interesting to watch.

Things change with time. Maybe he's softened? Maybe he feel's Starfleet is truer to who JLP is. or of 3 is the planned end that has somethign to do with it, the arc/journey of three seasons

Plus, if he's Admiral Picard he's found a dfiferent approach to Captain Picard of the Enterprise

The story for PIC that was pitched to Sir Patrick turned out to be quite different from the scripts they eventually wrote. Sir Patrick himself has said that out of the original ideas they suggested and that he signed on for only the core basics (the Romulan refugees, for example) remained. He was present in the writers’ room a few times, he saw how the show got shaped into existence and he’s professional enough to know that original ideas often turn into something else. Some of his conditions were more important than others - I’d say the one about “no Starfleet for Picard, I don’t want to wear any uniforms anymore” got turned into “something new for Picard, please”. I mean they did get him to wear uniforms again - they even got him to wear the TNG one. It depends on how you write it - I’m sure he’d have said “nope” if they had handed him the TNG uniform and placed him in the captain’s chair. They didn’t do that though - they gave him new scenes to play and ultimately that’s all Sir Patrick wants - new scenes, new challenges. And that’s what the writers honored.

Sir Pat even admitted that after going in all 'no uniform', he felt a fool for one scene he himself felt for context he should be back in the uniform.

I THINK it was the one with Raffi rather than the Data dream. I think his attitudes may have softened as teh stories developed

Honestly the idea that everyone's going back in Starfleet feels like it's very much in reaction to the fan criticisms about season 1 "soiling" Starfleet. Now in season 2, Starfleet's back to its noble and virtuous self. See, they're taking back Picard, Raffi and Rios as though nothing ever happened. And even Elnor's joining.

Reminds me of the various "course corrections" Disco did in its second season in reaction to fan complaints during their first season.

Indeed. It will be curious to see how this plays out if it is such a correction. The mystery ship might be Picard's new ride.
