Drexler isn't perfect but he's a shining star in the Trek production constellation. I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

His pickiness doesn't inspire my confidence. But, it seems to be the trend now for Trek productions is to steer back in to history and try to repeat the greatest hits. So, we shall see how it rolls. But, few in Trek's production have earned the benefit of the doubt from me.
Doug Drexler confirmed he worked on Season 2 as well, not just season 3
The way this sounds, it confirms my suspicions that S3 may well be a type of TNG-S8. With S2 being a "travel back in time to fix something in the present" theme (a la STIV), maybe he means "you *can* go home again" because Picard et al. are taking a "Voyage Home".... which will end with Picard being "...given the duties for which [he has] repeatedly demonstrated unswerving ability. The command of a starship."
I know, I know -- those who don't want that (you know who you are) need not reply to this with your typical one liners.

I mean, it also got a new show runner. Maybe these seasons genuinely have stuff he likes.
Last I heard (which was 3 years ago so who knows what has happened since then) Doug hasn't watched any of the new series because he was upset that they didn't hire anyone from earlier productions (other than Eaves) to work on them.
I'm not aware of his actual opinions on the stories themselves.
Meh, he's entitled to change his outlook once he's offered employment. Besides, a lot of us are guilty of crapping on things we wish we were a part of but weren't asked.
Then I'm led to believe his position on PIC Season 2 is closer to his real thoughts, since he only disliked New Trek before due to Office Politics.
His real thoughts are probably, "I want to like it and, if you pay me, I'll say I love it!" Gotta make the hand that feeds you look good. So I think there's a kernel of truth in what he's saying, he's just amped it up a little for the hype.
That's what keeps the BBS going year after year.

That's on him. I don't care if his motivations are purely money or a mix of getting paid and a genuine change of heart. I'm just glad he's involved.
Well, I don't know this picky person, but '90s Trek had good and bad aspects compared to current Trek, and I hope it's at least what I consider good that he likes... Otherwise, a "return to the good ol' times" vibe doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, either.

He was an artist of one kind or another on all of the TNG era shows + Enterprise.
Started as a makeup artist on TNG, then moved to scenic artist, then illustrator to finally VFX. Which he still does as a career.
He made the USS Defiant cutaway in Enterprise season 4. He also was a key designer on the NX-01 herself, and designed the hypothetical NX-Refit that's popular in some fan circles. (also the Ent-J, but I don't hold that against him, there was a budget)
And he worked on the award-winning makeup for Dick Tracy in 1990.
Yep. When he went to work on TNG, he was asked why would he want to work on a TV show after working on a Award winning movie? It was because he loved Star Trek. It was his dream.
The man is passionate and loves the franchise. And has about 15 years' worth of experience in Trek under his belt. Something most people who've ever worked on the franchise likely can't and will never say.
I mean, I would hope people would put their heart in to their work. Rather odd if they don't in a creative endeavor. I appreciate his history with the franchise but that doesn't automatically mean I'm confident in the direct of the current season. Honestly, it feels like a step back, aiming for warm fuzzy feelings of the familiar. Which, in general, is the trend I see in current production patterns.
Now, less I come across as extremely negative I will simply state that I am glad that there are those who have this opportunity to see what they like again from a familiar artist. I just am not confident that this is what I want in Trek.
