Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Just gave the show my first rewatch since it aired. Somehow I think I’d managed to convince myself that it wasn’t as good as I remembered, mostly because of the absolute deluge of criticism I’d seen online. Instead I came out loving the show more than I did the first time.

Yes, there’s a few questionable decisions in the storytelling, and yes a couple of the episodes don’t quite land as well as the rest, but overall, I think it’s bloody brilliant.

I certainly understand why people have issues with it, but I think it all holds up remarkably well. Can’t wait for season 2!

I watched a galaxycon panel on Youtube with Gates McFadden and Robert Picardo. They've seen season one of Picard and liked it. Gates wonders what happened to her character. And why there was no mention of Beverley Crusher in season one of Picard at all.

You and me both. But they were probably saving her for future episodes.
That's what I would assume - they wouldn't want to commit themselves to saying anything definite about her that might contradict a future story in which she is involved, so since the season 1 story didn't need a Beverly reference, there wasn't one, which precludes exactly nothing they might choose to do with her in the future.

It was odd that he called Moritz from the Stargazer instead of her, but he may have wanted to keep her out of the mission like the other ones from the Enterprise

Not if she was on a ship or a distant planet, which may turn out to have been the case.
And it is possible that he just didn't want to face her. I believe it possible that Picard's biggest regret in the whole Romulan rescue fiasco is a redhead.

According to the novel, they had a brief farewell by way of view screen when Picard left the Enterprise, and he hasn't spoken with her since.

My impression was that Moritz was living on Earth and thus was relatively nearby and available to provide a very quick physical. For all we know, Beverly could be at the other end of the quadrant, plus we don't know how or where their relationship left off - all of which is fertile ground to potentially be explored further down the road, when time, actor availability and storyline allows, precisely because the show hasn't already committed itself to a particular outcome as an unnecessary one-off reference. It's more open-ended this way.

I just read a new Trekmovie interview with Gates McFadden she mentions there's a chance she might be returning as Beverley Crusher in season. Please let it happen and have a good story for her character like they did with Marina and Jonathan Frakes characters like they did in Nepenthe.

Yes it was posted last page.

So far we’ve had Gates, LeVar, Picardo, Spiner, Whoopi and Frakes pretty much confirm that they’re likely to appear in the second season. Distinct lack of DS9 cast involvement, but you run the risk of becoming nothing more than a glorified cameo show if you start including everyone.

I really liked the restraint they showed with regards to Frakes and Sirtis in the first season. Hopefully they can keep that up.
