Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Lorca was an exception though. He was considered odd, unusual, and atypical captain, yet because of his boldness many considered him to be a bad-ass captain. That is before he took 'Discovery' to cross the Mirror-verse and once there he turned out to be just your classic mustache-twirling villain, which completely ruined his character development:confused::confused:.

If Kurtzman & Co learns anything from this and creates another surprise villain character in 'Picard,' hopefully they won't be revealing them the same way they were revealing Lorca. Better make them complex multi-dimensional villain like Dukat (at least before DS9 final season) rather than just another cartoon villain.
I kinda hope that they're doing kinda the opposite with Oh than they did with Lorca. Make her look like she is an obvious moustache twirling cartoon villain and later reveal that she is not, and has been bullshitting the Zhash Vash (or whatever the Romulan infiltrators are) to find out their plans.

Let's hope that'll be the case. I would have a better respect for the show-runners if they manage to deceive viewers by showing us an obvious villain character that turns out to be fake, while the real one is something none of us expect all along...

If Kurtzman & Co learned anything from this and created another surprise villain character in 'Picard,' hopefully they won't be revealing him/her the same way they revealed Lorca. Whether it's Maddox, Narek, Jurati, or someone else, it's better make them as complex multi-dimensional villain like Dukat (at least before DS9 final season) rather than just another cartoon villain.
Jurati seems to be heading towards a Manchurian Candidate-style villainy trigger for me (that's probably why Oh mind-melds with her in the promos), but that presupposes that Oh is actually what she seems to be, e.g. villainous. I'm really hoping for a Heel-Face Turn for Narek though, as he seemed likable enough in the first two episodes (or at least seemed to genuinely like Soji beyond his honey-trap mission), but I'm not so sure about his arc now that he's been portrayed in a much more sinister light in the third one. Still, it's within the realm of possibility as of now that he'll get a change of heart and cuts his ties to his people to save the galaxy.

Of course even Oh and Rizzo could turn out to be compelling villains if they are consistently portrayed as genuinely believing in their cause as opposed to simple mustache-twirling.

So do you think Oh is related to Empress Georgiou?? (which BTW is still stuck 800 years in the future with 'Discovery' - although Michelle Yeoh's Section 31 series has now been greenlighted to proceed)

Honestly, no I don’t. I honestly think Oh was wearing sunglasses just for some silly effect.

I keep thinking, since the second episode, that with a rogue Commodore with officers under her command, all under the nose of an Admiral (after how many years of this happening through TOS, TNG, etc.) I feel like saying something to the Admiral, like Guy in Galaxy Quest:

"Seriously, did you even watch the show?!?!"

IMO Cristóbal Rios is a blatant ripoff of Mackenzie Calhoun
down to resigning from starfleet after seeing his captain killed

Even if the character ends up resembling Calhoun, that's part of Paramount/CBS/whatever IP. It's a work for hire that belongs to them. A ripoff would be if Rios was a big green ogre with a Scottish accent and ears that look like antennae, wearing a medieval-looking tunic and snacking on grubs and rats.

Orions and Andorians can’t reproduce;)

Even Elnor the Elf Romulan isn't a ripoff per se, just an extremely lazy homage that we can all see through like a bottle of watered down Romulan Ale.

It is weird that episode 3 has him leaving earth (finally!) but we know from trailers he goes immediately back.
