Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I just watched Brothers again and I thought it was intriguing how Dr. Soong talked about the differences with Lore and Data and how they were created. Also B-4 in nemesis. That Soong talked about creating their positronic minds. How difficult it was designing androids is. And about how emotion chip the chip was made for Data and how this ties into how Bruce Maddox ended creating Dahj and Soji. I wonder what kind of information Agattha will find out about Soji and Dahj.

He doesn’t answer the question. He just asks the question right back. He might be inferring that she’s a Romulan, but then why aren’t Laris and Zhaban wearing sunglasses? And wouldn’t Romulans also have the eyelids even if they don’t need them on Romulus? He’s just being coy.

So, Mr. Chabon, I logically infer that she’s from the Mirror universe, and that she’s not really a Vulcan or a Romulan, but a certain dethroned former empress in disguise. Or the dethroned empress’s granddaughter.

How Holmes-on-Cocainesque.

Chabon's answers are mostly really good and shows that he has actually thought of these things and has great grasp of both the setting and the characters. The only answer that worries me is the sunglasses one, as his answer implies that it actually means something, instead of just being a visual gag. And I'm really done with Discovery-type bizarre 'guess who is not really who the say they are but instead are something utterly absurd and ludicrous' sort of bullshit. And I really, really do hope that it doesn't mean what we all think it might mean, i.e. her being from the Mirror Universe.

I find it astonishing how much of freakout a Vulcan wearing sunglasses has caused the fan community.

Way to blow her cover, then. But her office was at least as bright as the Okinawa setting... Or is the UV band the only problem?

Doesn’t Discovery have access to the Red Angel suit?

The hero ship of that show is a powerful factory for building the unimaginable. There's nothing they would not have access to.

So the "they are stuck" writing will have to be based on something else. The bulk of the heroes have no access to Burnham and vice versa at first, it seems. But beyond that, they are time travel gods like any other, and can make guest appearances in any Trek spinoff they prefer. That they hopefully do not will be a writing challenge - but for DSC, not for PIC.

I think it was just a reminder that Commodore Oh was a bad guy, since we had only seen her for about two minutes prior to the scene. I don't think there is anything more to it than that.

I would have thought that too before Chabon's answer.

As much as I dislike EAS for a lot of their preconceptions, and whining about the Kelvin movies and Discovery, this article is fascinating. Click!

Of particular interest is the Into Darkness (incorrectly attributed to Beyond) Starfleet logo atop the Quantum Archive building and a Betazoid logo from a fan-made game used on one of Picard's trophies.

So do you think Oh is related to Empress Georgiou?? (which BTW is still stuck 800 years in the future with 'Discovery' - although Michelle Yeoh's Section 31 series has now been greenlighted to proceed)

Oh, so that was a tellarite

His observations pages are fine, since he doesn’t insert his opinions into them. They’re just observations.

And what if a character has both sunglasses and a goatee? Do they cancel each other out like two negatives or is it a compound effect translating into a level of evilness that would give the Terran Empire a run for their money? :D

Lorca was an exception though. He was considered odd, unusual, and atypical captain, yet because of his boldness many considered him to be a bad-ass captain. That is before he took 'Discovery' to cross the Mirror-verse and once there he turned out to be just your classic mustache-twirling villain, which completely ruined his character development:confused::confused:.

If Kurtzman & Co learned anything from this and created another surprise villain character in 'Picard,' hopefully they won't be revealing him/her the same way they revealed Lorca. Whether it's Maddox, Narek, Jurati, or someone else, it's better make them as complex multi-dimensional villain like Dukat (at least before DS9 final season) rather than just another cartoon villain.
