Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Are we really at a point where any Trek that has high production values, and actual decent cinematography, is going to be classified as "JJ"?
The TOS movies had had high production values and cinematography but they still jelled with star trek also but the focus of these new prime Star Trek seems to be action witch is stupid for a Trek show

Eh..the original Trek movies were really inconsistent, only most people just sweep it under the rug because they don't want to seem to be heretical.

The bad thing imo is that he isn't fair with his ratings and surface details and adhering to canon play a bigger role in how he hates things than the story, the acting and the entertainment value. When it should be the other way around.

And that he isn't impartial and apparently rates things different, depending on when and by whom they were produced...
I agree He gave a Star Trek VI a pretty bad review just for the nitpick canon stuff and not actual reasons

I do find it funny how he lashes out at Picard having some dystopian elements yet has a history of bashing utopian concepts...

The only TOS movie that Looked bad was V with its not so good special defects that look worse than TMP. I think most of the TOS movies hold and are at least watchable witch is more than can be said for TNG's movie line up

Well more so my point is in terms of visual styles and attitudes, and that boils down to some movies trying to hold to Genes vision of Star Trek and absolutism of Federation good, everyone else bad, and Nick Meyer which had a more realistic, less idealistic tone. There's a fairly jarring disconnect between TPM and TWOK for example, things happen that don't make sense..like the Enterprise being totally rebuilt in TPM and being state of the art yet only 10 years later is an obsolete ship relegated to Academy duty.

You don't find a tight fitting jumpsuit that accentuates a mans bulge to be aesthetically pleasing and realistic?

Eh, maybe if they weren't all beige, grey and white. Why not a sleek black or a deep blue?

What got me was the uniform inconsistency..you had multi-piece uniforms that seemed to flow well, then unitards, then lounge wear shirts and something you might see on a tropical beach.

All on the same bridge at the same time.

I think the officer uniforms are ok everyone else's tho was stupid. The TWOC unform change was for the better

I sense dreams and flashbacks or a visit to the museum

HMMMM

I watched the first episode for free, it wasn't my thing. My friend saw it and he loved it. We just have our things

Who is more perfect than Chakotay anyway? XD

A slab of wood that's been treated and sealed?

Well the first two seasons of TNG were bad so we'll see what happens next tho im not paying for the bad streaming service to see

Watch them again. There's some bad, and mediocre episodes in there, but there's also some good ones that are pretty much classics and some of the highest regarded of the franchise. (Of note Q Who? and The Measure of a Man.)

Yeah it's... Rough. For sure. But they're hardly the disasters everyone always makes them out to be.

Eh, fine by me. Not any sillier than the stuff they made Seven or T'Pol to wear.

Or not wear.

Nothing is sillier than that stuff. "Oh, Seven has to have high-heels because of Borg implants in her feet!"

God. The "cloth"-looking jumpsuits on Seven were better than that silver abomination, and T'Pol at least got the cloth-looking stuff and not spandex spray painted on her, but their costumes were just really shameful. I mean, I'm not entirely complaining same with Troi's costumes, but at the same time it wouldn't have been bad if they were wearing normal clothes like everyone else got to wear.

(Though, I'd argue Troi's thing wasn't nearly as bad as Seven or T'Pol.)

So, fine, but the guys in something ridiculous. It's kind of owed at this point.
