Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Yeah Terry said in an interview that he's had the basic story for Season 3 since before he even worked on the show.

Nice captain's chair. I'd love to have that chair in my office. :adore:

I’ve been listening to RMB. And from what I’ve gathered, he didn’t like PIC S1. He didn’t like SNW S1. He didn’t like ST’09. Whereas I liked all of them. From my perspective, RMB isn’t the best person to promote that PIC S3 is good, since I’ve just not been as grumpy as he has been with Trek from 2009 onwards. Its already been taking some getting used to with this season being billed as building to The Next Next Generation, even though there was already a Next Next Generation already there from S1 & S2.
I disliked all of the above. Hell, the only live action Trek since 2005 I loved was "The Star Gazer". The only live action season I liked more than hated was PICARD season 2. So, he is a good point of reference for the Berman era fans who especially disliked both the Abrasverse and DISCOVERY.

Currently, there is a sense of déjà vu with PIC S2, where the first three episodes were positively reviewed by critics before the season turned out the way it did. So with S3, based upon the reception from critics, I feel that at least the first six episodes will be good and that it will at least be better than S2, though that’s not a high bar to clear. It does not mean that it will be a perfect season. That has yet to be determined.
Terry Matalas definitely stuck the landing with 12 MONKEYS. A good parallel would be the notes BREAKING BAD and THE SHIELD hit closing out. So I'm really not worried about this one. Well, short of a secret reshot ending where Michael Burnham is in a holodeck saying End Program. :D

It makes sense to be cautious going into S3, though I also understand where the excitement is coming from.

100% agree.

RMB’s former involvement with Alec Peters and Axanar has made any opinion of his a non-starter in my book. I’ll make my own decisions on things I enjoy or not. I certainly don’t need his opinion.

That does not seem smart. But maybe some fans are really that excited.

You deleted my last line of that post which said “But to each his own.” Just saying.

I will always trust RMB to a degree because I love the movie "Free Enterprise." One of my most favorite movies ever. It's like "Swingers" if the Swingers were nerds. Also has the Shat Man playing a funny version of himself. With that said I still like mentioned above will make up my own mind as to whether or not I like this season.

Terry Trek is everything I dreamed it would be and more so thankfully my Terry Trek sweatshirt just arrived.

This is not a sales pitch but rather a larger affirmation of the power of Terry Trek.)

I don't know if this has been posted yet but Entertainment Weekly has a non-spoiler interview with Terry Matalas about Picard S3. He talks about how he wanted to give the TNG cast a proper send-off:

Matalas sees Picard season 3 as the proper "last story" for the Next Generation era. "I think the original series had a final send-off with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," he tells EW of the 1991 movie that brought back the William Shatner-led cast. "This cast," he says, referring to The Next Generation, "never really had that. So that was the goal from the beginning, to send 'em off in one final adventure that was both thrilling and deeply personal."

It's obvious Terry Matalas loves Star Trek. I think he'll be the main guy going forward if this is really a hit, and it looks like it will be. Mike McMahon probably gets the greenlight for whatever animated stuff he wants, too.
And what about the Hagemans? No love for them?

For that matter, even Akiva Goldsman is not exactly doing bad with SNW.
