Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Nah this is a separate show.

Its premise is far more expansive than following a group of young adults around at Starfleet Academy in San Francisco.

Prodigy's premise has far more room for adventure outside the classroom.

Patrick has said recently he wants to do more Star Trek.

I'm sure they can work him in someplace.

I'm just not sure that headlining a weekly series is it at his age.

I'm starting to think they've begun changing their tune about whether or not PIC Season 3 will definitely be the last season because they haven't been able to get another show ready for actual production. Which would leave them down a series.

Star Trek: Picard Addresses Season 4 Chances | Den of Geek

maybe while filming S3 they realized that “this” is always what the show should have been.

I think the rumored premise is a spin-off of Discovery. So 32nd Century Starfleet Academy.

I think it's a pure numbers game. That's what would make them change their mind and continue with Picard more than anything else. They're fixated on having five Star Trek series to fill out the year so people who are only subscribed to Paramount+ because of Star Trek won't cancel their subscriptions during off-months.

If they had a new series in the works that was ready to replace Picard, something would've been announced or leaked by now (unless it's an extension of PIC). A casting call, something. Section 31 is in limbo, despite what they say. If Starfleet Academy was ready to go forward, we would've heard something by now. I think they don't have anything else. I think they're trying to get something else, but they're not there yet. So if they have nothing to replace Picard with, they can't replace something with nothing.

Kate Mulgrew is open to paying live-action Janeway again, so maybe the replacement series would be Star Trek: Janeway. But it doesn't sound like anything concrete.

If the SFA series is a spin-off from Discovery, I don't know. I hope they either give those cadets a lot more development or they're different cadets. I don't think the ones we saw on DSC can carry a series. "All Is Possible" was a good Tilly episode, but I don't walk away from the episode thinking, "I want to see more of those cadets!" They were fine for an episode. A series is something else.

I think if it's not Picard, then it's going to essentially be Picard by another name: a spin-off with a mix of TNG/DS9/VOY Characters, PIC Characters, and New Characters. In which case, announcing what the series will be would spoil something from PIC Season 3.

EDITED TO ADD: I'll eat this entire post if I turn out to be wrong. :p

1, 2, 3 ... FOUR versions of Janeway?

That's going to confuse the kids watching her on Prodigy (And to think people are complaining about Seven of Nine being overexposed  ).

More likely, a re-branded Picard/spin-off.

They re-branded Roseanne as The Conners after Roseanne called Valerie Jarrett an "ape" on Twitter (Woman was fired from her own show! )

The incident has stood as an object lesson to would-be Divas who think they're too big to be fired.

--------

Let this be the final go-round for TNG (Seven and Raffi are both capable professionals who don't need a bunch of fairy godparents from TNG hovering over them! :scream:  )

. I Just read a news story that Jeri Ryan wanted to star in a mystery series and wanted to do a Western series. Imdb says she's in only one episode of Dark Winds. I'm fine with a Tng spinoff series for some of the TNG characters not just a Seven or Raffi series I'd like to see a Riker series. Or Juratti return as the Borg Queen.

Source?

I think that the focus needs to be taken away from any potential Seven spin-off being a ‘Seven and Raffi’ show. It would be a Seven spin-off potentially with Raffi as a part of the ensemble if she is not killed off in Picard season 3. Seven and Raffi is a ‘shipping’ concept, not the basis of a series in itself. Star Trek should not be about two characters in a possible relationship, but about a wider universe in my opinion. But I shall leave this to TPTB, I think that a Section 31 show is more likely at the moment anyway tbh.

Who's the showrunner?

It goes without saying that any Seven/Raffi relationship is going to be one part of a greater whole (The Titan, Borg civil war, etc.)

Only in that they are actually talking about it. But, the cynical side of me is winning out today and I figure it's going precisely the way of a Seven series-nowhere.

The emphasis will be on something else, like the Academy series or another safe bet.

Prior to the CW currently circling the drain, an Academy series might've been a real possibility.

The CW cancelled most of its lineup earlier this year (Legends of Tomorrow, Charmed, Supergirl, Batwoman, Dynasty ... all gone).

The young adult demographic ain't doing it for them any more. Furthermore, a SFA series risks competing with Prodigy.

If there is a Seven/Raffi series, I doubt they're going to be screwing like minks (as much as #TeamSaffi would love to have it otherwise).

Seven full well knows that there's absolutely NO privacy aboard a starship:

B'Elanna Torres: How do YOU know when we're having intimate relations?
Seven of Nine: There is no one on Deck Nine, Section Twelve who DOESN'T know when you're having intimate relations.

Will they care about each other? Yes. (Janeway loved Chakotay enough to go back out into the Delta Quadrant for him.)

they didn’t move fast enough on Section 31 and it got shoved aside for SNW because everyone loved Pike.

I think I’m with you on a Seven series not panning out. Although who knows after Picard S3 drops.

I don't think we'll get "Star Trek: Seven of Nine", but I wouldn't be surprised if she winds up as captain of the ship in whatever post-PIC spinoff comes down the pike.

I'm guessing it's going to be more Star Trek: Titan than Star Trek: Seven of Nine.

Star Trek: Picard didn't always work (The Ladies have been carrying the show).

PIC's biggest pitfall has been that it's trying to please too many masters bts and wound up not having much of an identity as a result. I think an ensemble show with less expectation that it be Prestige Television would smooth that out, if nothing else.

I doubt SFA will be aimed at the CW demo. I'd expect more an exploration route with an emphasis on rookies learning, akin to police procedural style.

I think it’s more like, the story the fans wanted to see wasn’t the story they wanted to tell.

How long is this going to go on?

We're getting TNG S8. Are we getting TNG seasons 9, 10, 11, and 12 too? :scream:

Which is what we're now getting on Prodigy (minus the bedhopping).
