Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I know your spitballing but I was enjoying exploring it because I think that such ideas are fun to play around with. Though, I think Bashir MD would end up like Trapper John, MD just due to the having to create problems that Bashir can't solve right until the very end, which feels like a very strange limitation on 24th/25th century tech. Kind of like transporters having to be broken every other episode. But, on the other hand, I love medical shows so I really want it to work.

it could end up something like “Diagnosis Murder” where he ends up having to solve a murder mystery on top of being a Doctor.

In that case, better team him up with Garak, who is always unnervingly informed about manners of death even before the autopsy (and is delighted to be a suspect in every fourth murder or so).

I think that could be interesting and pair him with a gruff or sarcastic security officer who assists in the arrest process.

I dunno if Andy Robinson would be up for 15 hour days in that makeup at his age though.

and the gruff security office would have to always tell Bashier “keep your nose out of my investigation and stick to being a doctor”.

Armin said in a recent interview that he wouldn’t want to be a regular anymore, not with that makeup. Guest spot would be fine, if he was paid whatever Dorn was in season 3 haha

Though maybe if it was an animated series he’d be willing because no makeup!
Quark sitcom would work, even if animated. Quark sets up a bar on Risa

It's 'Bashir'.

Honestly, if you were going to do a semi DS9 revival, having a Bashir-centered show would probably be the best.

Alexander Siddig is still reasonably young, and his acting chops have increased tremendously since being on DS9. He's well known these days beyond Trek fandom. But he also still loves Trek and has stayed involved in fandom.

Bashir was also semi-connected to a lot of characters. He was friends with Miles, last dating Ezri, had an...interesting relationship with Garak. Finding an excuse to bring in Kira and Quark would be a bit harder, but I see no reason why they couldn't have guest spots.

Random Fun Little Thing: If you add the 30 episodes of PIC to the 178 episodes of TNG (counting one hour each as one episode), you get 208 episodes. Or the equivalent of eight full 26-episode seasons. PIC's 30 episodes balance out and make up for the 2nd Season of TNG's 22 episodes.

That is pretty neat.

It is cool. So from a certain perspective the entire run of Picard is the Season 8 of TNG that we thought we'd never get.

I liked Season 1 and gnnnngh sort of liked bits and disliked bits from Season 2. I feel positive about Season 3. Regardless, I'm glad that by some miracle this show briefly came into existence. Now Nemesis is reduced to a sort of a prologue before the main event, with the early episodes of Season 1 favouring ST09 as a reference point. :D

Eh, the band are getting back together. Are we really getting a trailer soon?

It's funny - any morsel of comic, game, book or anything we called 'post-Nemesis', but that's really been minusculed now we have Picard, Prodigy, Lower Decks

In my mind Picard S1 was always by default a sequel to TNG, despite the producers saying it wasn't. I felt it was 'Movie #5' that until my second watch of the first season! It's a very different show and Jean-Luc didn't feel like his old self until at least Episode 3

But by default we have a different showrunner now with a different vision - they've said outright that although it's not a 'reunion' per se, Matalas has made his 10 hour TNG finale movie

What makes PIC so much better than the revival of The X-Files is that even though we're picking up with these characters again, they're not putting them back exactly where they were before, pretending it's the '90s again, except with 2010s/2020s flavoring mixed in.

Yes, this.

Like Riker and Troi having and losing a child... These characters have a life outside of the Enterprise and their time on the ship does not represent the sum total of everything important they have ever done.
